From simple automated calls to SMS alerts to the mobile apps we have today, mobile banking has truly come a long way. In 2021, most banking apps allow you to deposit a check with a click of a button, but sometimes you may stumble across your mobile check deposit not working.

Our bankers at Cornerstone Bank have found that there’s usually a few reasons why your check isn’t going through your banking app. To learn more, keep reading so that next time, your deposit goes through without a hitch. 

Reason #1: You didn’t endorse the check.

The most common reason why your mobile check deposit is not working is because you forgot to sign the back of your check. Before you take a picture, make sure you’re always endorsing your check. That way you don’t have to go back and start the process over again. 

Reason #2: You have a deposit limit.

Some banks allow you to set a limit on how much you can deposit on your bank account. So if a check is higher than that limit, it won’t go through. The best way to solve this issue is to simply call your bank to increase your limit. 

Reason #3: You’re not waiting long enough.

Mobile apps don’t have to follow the same deposit regulation as an ATM or when you go physically to the office. So instead of $200 being available right away, you may have to wait a couple of business days for the money to appear in your account. 

Reason #4: You don’t have a good connection. 

If your mobile check deposit is not working, check your connection. Sometimes your data connection may not be strong enough for a successful deposit. In that case, try switching over to Wi-Fi. Same goes the other way around. 

Reason #5: Your banking app isn’t working.

Sometimes it’s not you, it’s the bank. If you think the app may be down, contact your bank right away to see if other customers are having the same issue. That way they can actively work to get the app back in shape for you to deposit your check.

Mobile check deposit is an exclusive feature in the U.S. Bank Mobile App that uses the camera on your phone to deposit checks into your U.S.  Bank deposit accounts. Checks eligible for mobile check deposit include consumer, business and corporate drafts, Payable Through drafts, money orders, cashier's checks and more. There is no fee to use this feature.

  1. Select Deposit at the bottom of your dashboard, then choose Deposit a check
  2. Select the account you'd like to deposit funds into, then enter the amount. For U.S. Treasury checks, press the toggle bar to avoid impacting your daily/weekly deposit limits. 
  3. Clearly sign your name in the endorsement space, on the back of the check. Use black or blue ink for better visibility.
  4. Take a picture of the front and back of the check. We require an image of both sides to process the deposit accurately. For best results, follow these tips:
    • Take the picture directly above the check while holding the camera still. 
    • Place your check on a dark background and have strong enough lighting to see all details.
    • Make sure all four corners show and the check is flat without folds or creases.
  5. Optional: Add a note to the transaction in the Personal note field.
    • Please avoid adding sensitive information such as: PINs, IDs, or passwords.
    • These notes are specific to your profile and can be made on all your deposits to reference later. This information is not added to our system of record.
  6. Review the details of your mobile deposit and select Deposit. We recommend to retain all checks for at least seven business days after the deposit is made.

  • Items drawn on foreign banks or in foreign currency
  • Paper drafts with MICR printing, such as convenience checks drawn off credit products such as home equity lines of credit and credit cards.

Why is US Bank mobile deposit not working?

Why did my mobile check not deposit?

When you took the picture of your check, it's possible that the phone didn't capture the photo because of insufficient memory problems. Another reason could be that you reached the monthly mobile check deposit limit set by your financial institution.

Why is my check not depositing into my account?

Your bank may hold a deposited check if there are insufficient funds in the payer's account or if the payer's account is closed or blocked for some reason. Banks usually resend checks with issues to the paying institution, but this results in a longer delay for the depositor.

How Long Does US bank take to accept a mobile deposit?

When will my money be available? The first $225 of your total daily deposits is usually available right away. The rest of your deposit amount will typically be available the next business day (Monday through Friday, excluding holidays) if your deposit was made before 9:00 p.m. Central Time.
