Overall Impact: Reviewers will provide an overall impact score to reflect their assessment of the likelihood for the project to exert a sustained, powerful influence on the research field(s) involved, in consideration of the following review criteria, and additional review criteria (as applicable for the project proposed).

Scored Review Criteria

The NIH utilizes a 9-point rating scale (1 = exceptional; 9 = poor) for all applications; the same scale is used for overall impact scores and for criterion scores.

Significance. Investigator(s). Innovation. Approach. Environment.

NIH, AHRQ and the CDC have released a notice stating that all individuals supported by research training, fellowship, research education and career development awards will be required to have ORCID iDs. It also states that those ORCID iDs must be linked to the individual’s eRA Commons personal profile. This linking is required at the time of appointment for institutional awards (T, K12/KL2 and R mechanisms) and January 25, 2020 for those applying for individual awards (F and K mechanisms).

To register and link your ORCID iD to your eRA Commons personal profile, use either of these methods:

  • Go to your eRA Commons personal profile and follow the “Create or Connect Your ORCID iD” link as shown in eRA’s The ORCID ID instructions.
  • Register for an ORCID iD directly, then add it to your eRA personal profile.
