Make sure Do Not Disturb Mode is off

Do Not Disturb stops interruptions while you’re busy or asleep: notifications won’t appear and iPhone won’t ring. You might’ve activated it and forgotten to turn it off.

Go to Settings > Do Not Disturb and check to make sure it’s disabled. Otherwise, you can also check via Control Center—Do Not Disturb is represented by the half-moon symbol.

Use The Volume Slider In The Settings App

If the physical iPhone 12 Pro volume buttons aren’t working, you can adjust the ringer volume in the Settings app. Here’s how:

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Go to “Sounds & Haptics.”
  3. In the Ringer and Alerts section, drag the slider to the desired volume level.

Turn On Change With Buttons

If you want to increase or decrease the ringer volume on your iPhone using the volume buttons, ensure Change with Buttons is turned on. Here’s how:

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Go to “Sounds & Haptics.”
  3. In the Ringer and Alerts section, turn on “Change with Buttons” by swiping the button to the right.

If you enable this feature, remember that the Volume buttons now perform two functions, depending upon when you use them:

When you are not listening to media (like music or video), the volume buttons only control ringer and alerts to change the volume for media, you need to pull down the Control Center (swipe down from the top right of the screen) and use the volume slider there.
When you are listening to music or video, the volume buttons will only control the media volume.

Reboot your iPhone

This is one of the most common and easiest things to do. The iPhone 12 Pro volume button not working issue may happen that due to a recent software update or a software bug.  Restarting the phone reloads the entire operating system helping it regain its complete functionality. So if your iPhone 12 Pro volume buttons stopped working, make sure that you restart your phone. Go to settings > general > shut down. When the slider appears, drag it from left to right to power off your iPhone. When the phone is off, press and hold the sleep/wake button to power it on.

Force restart

Attempting a force-restart on your iPhone could clear your device of any minor software issues. Don’t worry; you won’t lose any personal data through restarting. Here’s how:

Press and release the volume up button, press and release volume down button, then press and hold the side button until the Apple logo appears.

Press up and down

Try pressing the volume control up and down several times, alternating. Do you hear the clicking sound? If not, it may be because the buttons are stuck inside. You can try to keep on clicking it until your iPhone volume buttons go back to normal, or visit one of the Apple Stores so they can fix it.

Try Assistive Touch

This won’t actually fix your problem, but it will allow you to adjust the volume of the iPhone. To turn on AssistiveTouch, go to Settings > Accessibility > Touch > AssistiveTouch. Turn on the switch next to AssistiveTouch. A small icon will show up on your screen. Tap on it. Click on Device. You’ll see an option to adjust the volume up or down, just like you can do with functional volume buttons!

Update iOS

If you’re not running the latest iOS, try upgrading your software. iPhone 12 Pro volume button issue may arise due to an unstable version of iOS. Given that there has been no physical damage to the device, a non-updated version can lead to the volume button to stuck on an iPhone. To update your iOS, go to settings>General>Software Update. Here, you will find the latest version of iOS update available. Just download the update and then tap on the “Install Now” button.

Make sure your iPhone is not stuck on headphone mode

If iPhone 12 Pro volume buttons are not working, there is another simple trick that may work. You will need Apple earphones with a remote that allows you to adjust the volume. Make sure you use the original one. Plug the earphone into the headphone jack, and try to raise or lower the volume using it. Do you see the volume bar? Now, try to adjust the sound using the iPhone volume buttons.

Clean the volume buttons

If you notice dirt or dust around the volume buttons, remove it. iPhone volume buttons are pretty sensitive, and if they are dirty, they will respond slowly or won’t respond at all. You can use a vacuum nozzle, and if the buttons are sticky, use a q-tip and rubbing alcohol.

Clean the charging port and the headphone jack

In many cases, the problem was in the connector and too much dirt and dust in it. Use a soft lens cloth to gently clean the jack area. You can also use a dry cotton swab, cotton ball, or toothbrush to lightly rub around the edge of the small recess. Don’t press anything into recesses because you may push dirt further inside. You can apply a little rubbing alcohol to the cotton beforehand. However, avoid other liquids as these can cause further damage. Also, clean the headphone jack. Many users who faced this problem were able to finally fix it by cleaning the charging port and the headphone jack. Just make sure to remove all the debris, dirt, and dust. Once you are done, try to turn the volume up or down using the physical buttons.

If none of the quick fixes can get your volume button working again, you may have a hardware problem that requires professional help. If your iPhone is still under warranty, call Apple or take the device to an Apple Store for assistance.
