Let me start by saying that the fact that over 50% of the reviews are either 4 or 5 stars is comical. Those are either people associated with this hotel, or people that have never stayed at a 5 star resort. This is a motel quality establishment. There is nothing wrong with motels; however the reviews are not reflective of this fact. The check in is a nightmare. They have only one person working the front desk and it is not a very efficient person. We stayed two nights in this hotel, a week apart. One was on the day that we arrived to the USVI and one when we returned from our charter. Both times were at least 45 minutes to check in and both times we had issues with the room. On the first stay, we were told our room was not ready although it was an hour after our check-in time. I told them it was not acceptable and they found me a room. The room was not terrible but the bathroom looked like it had never been remodeled. It had cracked tiles throughout and the grout was filthy. Our friends were also staying in the hotel and their rooms were not as bad so we just bit the bullet and stayed the night. The hotel has no amenities other than a small pool and an outdoor bar with a very limited selection. The staff is not friendly or helpful. They only provide two towels for a double so we went to ask for two more. The housekeeping staff literally told us to go to the laundry to get them ourselves. Of course we went to the laundry there was no one there so we had to call to complain for them to bring us extra towels. On our second stay, we again had to wait close to an hour to check in. They told our friends that their room would not be ready for another hour and half. In other words, at 7:00 P.M.! They raised hell and ended up getting a corner room where you could hear the music blasting until 3:00 A.M... Our check-in went smooth, and we lugged all our luggage to the room (because there is no one there to assist with luggage). When we got to the room the air conditioning was not working! I called the front desk and they sent maintenance about a half our later. He checked out the unit and told me that it needed to be replaced so we would need to move rooms. After about an hour of sweating our tails off in that room they knocked on the door and to inform us that they found us a new room. I asked them if they could at least take our luggage up to the new room, as we were literally sweating in that room. They said that we had to take them ourselves. They could not even find us a luggage cart to help us move our luggage. In closing, I would not say to not stay at this hotel; although I would never stay there again. I am just stating that if you decide to stay there, just understand that you are staying at the equivalent of a lower level Motel. The staff is inept and unfriendly, with the exception of the bartender that was extremely nice. The amenities are the equivalent of a Motel 6, and the location is not great either.
This hotel features 2 bars/lounges, a poolside bar, and a restaurant. Enjoy the outdoor pool and free perks like cooked-to-order breakfast and free self parking. Free WiFi in public areas, a terrace, and a garden are also on offer.

The town is crawling with tourists when the cruise ships are in and much of the shopping has moved to a couple wharf-side shopping malls. There were some nice restaurants. We preferred St. John and St. Croix

  • Cajun style seafood was excellent! Escargots was a real treat as an appetizer. Had the shrimp and craw fish in bed of rice Seasoned creole style was not too hot and not too mild! Ambiance was appropriate for menu style.

  • My opinion is you should not travel to the Virgin Islands until they relax the rules on covid. At night, most of the bars, clubs, and restaurants are closed and the ones that are open, they close early. Basically I was walking around looking for something to do. If you're there to just go to the beach, that's fine but the nightlife there is a ghost town now during covid. Also you do not want to go shopping either. They are so desperate to get sales that everybody bombards you with trying to sell you something. Also a tip about buying alcohol, buy the alcohol at Kmart. That's the cheapest place to buy alcohol. Also if this is your first visit to St Thomas, be prepared because the customer service is not the greatest. A lot of the sellers are not very nice and I'm being kind. I'm not saying everyone but a lot have bad attitudes. I'm part St Thomian and I tell you this from experience.

  • I loved visiting Charlotte Amalie, and can't wait to return. The view from my hotel room was serene and I spent each morning sitting on the balcony with a cup of coffee taking in the breathtaking views It was very easy getting to Charlotte Amalie. I booked a private service, and Alex with Ride by Mr. Nice Guy took great care of me - I highly recommend him! He picked me up at the airport, and also too me to dinner, and tours of the island, and was great to work with from the time I booked with him. I also recommend getting a reservation at Oceana for dinner! The location is amazing, and the food is wonderful! I will definitely dine there on my next visit to Charlotte Amalie! Great place to visit any time of the year!

  • I think overall the place is okay. It's not a place for partying and adventure but mostly for relaxing, boating and beach bumming. That was fine for me. Some of the streets of downtown in the shopping area were abandoned, dirty and smelly but I guess it is what it is. The jewelry is touted as inexpensive but really in line with what I could get in South Florida so no big deal. The place is definitely expensive so have your money ready.

Can you walk around Charlotte Amalie?

You can easily see downtown Charlotte Amalie with its shopping and other attractions from the cruise ship port at Havensight. There is a substantial bay lying between the cruise port and downtown. However, as many cruise passengers have discovered it is a relatively easy, albeit long, walk to downtown.
