Formnext 2022: The Most Important Takeaways

A Machine for knitting socks! Originally these machines were made from metal back in the early 1900's and were common place in homes. To get hold of the original metal machines now is tricky as most have been destroyed or damaged over the past century, the ones that are left are costly! - So roll out the printer, get with the times and let's make some socks!

Below is a list of things you will require to complete the machine.

You will need 3mm bolts of varying lengths, something like this:

Aussel Pan Head Screw Bolts Nuts Stainless Steel M3 Screw Nuts Assortment with Lock Flat Washers 300PCS (Pan Head Screws-300PCS) : Amazon.co.uk: DIY & Tools

You will need a 12mm diameter mild steel bar (Aluminium may well be fine and easier to work with) of at least 200mm long, something like this:

Round Rod Bar Aluminium, Brass, Mild & Stainless Steel 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10 & 12mm | eBay

You will need 2 x 24mm bearings with 12mm hole, like these:

The needles used in the machine are (Although any needle of the same length and thickness will work):

The counter is one like this:

Broco Electronic Counter 5-Digit 0-99999 Digital Clicker LCD Digital Electronic Counter Tester Punch Magnetic Induction Proximity Switch Shockproof Digit Counter : Amazon.co.uk: DIY & Tools

You will need some M5 x 25mm long bolts and nuts for the frame (Nuts are optional as i haven't used them on my own machine and it is fine)

You will need a 200-300mm length, 0.5mm or 0.8mm spring steel to make the yarn tensioner for doing heals and toes.

You will need a 500mm piece of 15mm diameter aluminium tube for the Yarn stand - a wooden dowel of 15mm would do the same job.

There will be a ribber made available pretty soon. I am just working out a few bugs :)

Happy knitting, any issues, get in touch!

Don't get too hung up on the 'exact' parts, the whole idea of this machine was the bring the extortionate costs down so if you have something similar that you think will fit the purpose, give it a go :)

The larger parts are printed at 0.28mm layer height.

The finer parts are printed at 0.08mm layer height

The larger structural parts have 6 perimeters and %25 infill for strength

There are very few parts that require supports. Parts larger than 200mm have been split so everything will fit on a 200 x 200 mm bed.
