How to select a trailer brake controller
Product DescriptionA CURT Quick Plug brake controller wiring adapter is one of the fastest and easiest ways to plug your brake controller into your vehicle. It requires no cutting or splicing! Just insert the vehicle-specific plug end into the OEM vehicle’s factory brake controller socket. The other end plugs into your CURT trailer brake controller. Quick Plug harnesses are available for a variety of vehicles and are unique for each vehicle application to provide the easiest possible installation. This particular brake controller harness fits certain years of the Jeep Cherokee KL (see application info to verify fitment). CURT Quick Plug harnesses are compatible with most CURT brake controls and can be used as a replacement or for a new control unit installation. I unscrewed the lower panel behind the little door thingy at the left side of the dash to make it easier to get a hold of all the connections. I layed on my back to do the work, but once I spotted the right connector, which was coupled to a dummy receiver, the harness plugged right in. I bought it to go with a CURT controller. See the photo for the way I installed it on the door although the wires are tucked up tighter when it's plugged in. Works great. I wish the controller had an off switch. When not towing, I unplugged it, so the controller is not always on. Saved a ton of money by buying both pieces and installing them myself. If helpful, say so. Reviews with images

Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on July 7, 2020 This item says it fits a 2018 JL Wrangler and it does fit but does not work at all! Amazon will no longer let me return it. I called Curt and they said it is the wrong part for a 2018 JL Wrangler. Does Jeep tow package come with brake controller?It does not come with a controller but if equipped with a 7-pin connector on the tow package, it should be pre-wired to accept one. The plug should be a 6 pin plug tucked WAY up in the dash above the floor pedals. Typically you will require a wire harness adapter plus the controller.
Do I need a brake controller if I have a tow package?The answer is, no. Electric trailer brakes do not work without a brake controller. If your trailer is equipped with electric brakes, you will need a brake controller to tow.
Can I install my own trailer brake controller?Installing a brake controller involves disconnecting the vehicle battery, mounting the brake controller onto dash and plugging the unit in with a vehicle-specific wiring harness. If your vehicle is not equipped with a plug-and-play harness, you can also splice in wiring for connecting a brake controller.
