The 2-week wait refers to the period between ovulation and when an embryo implants. More specifically, it's the time until your body produces enough beta-hCG (i.e., the pregnancy hormone) to be detected in the urine or blood when you take a pregnancy test.

Twinges and cramps during the two week wait are common. Try not to panic: your womb is in overdrive. In fact, those feelings may mean implantation. If you experience more intense cramping, with or without bleeding, call your doctor.

Some women may notice symptoms as early as 5 DPO, although they won't know for certain that they are pregnant until much later. Early signs and symptoms include implantation bleeding or cramps, which can occur 5–6 days after the sperm fertilizes the egg. Other early symptoms include breast tenderness and mood changes.
