Tesla model 3 acceleration boost 2023

Tesla is known for its sometimes free, sometimes secret, over-the-air updates, but the EV evangelists (EVangelists?) over at Electrek stumbled on a new upgrade for the Model 3 promising more acceleration through a paid upgrade.

Some owners noticed that in the “upgrade” sections of their Model 3 profile that the Silicon Valley-based company “accidentally” added a line about the upgrade, though it is only available for dual-motor Model 3 owners, according to Electrek.

Does the acceleration boost upgrade on a model 3 2021 long range reduce the autonomy and effectively bring the car estimated driving range close to the performance edition ? or does it bring simply help with faster start to 60mph acceleration while still keeping a better overall autonomy than the performance would.

It purely helps with acceleration.

Nothing more, nothing less.

Your range will only be impacted if you mash the throttle a bunch.

I wouldn’t dream of flooring it all over town after dropping $2000 on a software update

Thanks for the fast feedback. So if I don't get too excited on the accelerator, I could still maintain close to the long range autonomy (vs performance which has less), and get a better acceleration when I want/need it.

level 2

I think his point is that the long range and performance are the same car with different acceleration curves, so since this package changes the acceleration curve for the long range, does its range decrease a similar level to the performance

level 1

I’ve had it for over a year. No difference in average consumption before and after when corrected for outdoor temperature.

level 2

Can you actually feel the difference? Is it worth $2k? Or another way to look at it, if I said I’ll give you $2k right now if you lose the feature, will you take my $2k?

level 1

Autonomy does not mean what you think it does.

level 2

Fun fact: in Spanish, range is "autonomía" and in French it's "autonomie". The word is similar in Portuguese too, which is why you may see many people whose first language is not English refer to range as "autonomy". In linguistics, this is called a "false friend".

Had a graph somewhere. Boost gives you in the Long Range about a 50HP extra. The Performance is still another 50 on top of that. So you are basically in the middle.

The acceleration is different and is more hard in the lower segment. LR Boost and Performance continue in acceleration about the same starting at 130km/h+.

Here is the graph from the German Tesla Forum

I bought the boost for my 2021 LR Y this week. The difference is absolutely noticeable. No regrets. Puts a smile on my face you can't wipe off with a belt sander.

level 1

I didn't lose any range when I got it but like others are saying you're a little more willing to punch it at a light and that brings it down. The p loses some of its range from bigger tires as well.

level 1

I think the range difference between the LR and the performance is almost entirely because of the wheels. The wheels on the performance are considerably heavier and less aerodynamic.

Does Tesla still have acceleration boost?

The Tesla Model Y Acceleration Boost shaves off half a second on the vehicle's 0 to 60 mph time. This drops its run from 4.8 seconds down to 4.3 seconds, as per Electrek. Owners can conveniently purchase the upgrade on their Tesla app, as long as they have the latest 2020.36 software update.

How much does Tesla acceleration boost cost?

The acceleration boost option has been available for only 10 days in the app, as you can see in an owner's video down below. The only thing that remains available as an upgrade in the Tesla app for Model Y Standard owners is the $12,000 FSD Beta.

How much is the Tesla Model 3 acceleration boost?

What's possibly even more important is that the 1/4 time dipped into the 11s, clocking in at 11.9s at 117 MPH. Yes—that's right—the $2,000 Acceleration Boost turned the Model 3 into an 11 second car.
