First of all, my hair is buzzed to a #2 wahl on the sides and maybe an inch or so on top. It is about 70% white at this point, the rest faded brown-red, and it is thinning. I have multiple chemical sensitivities, so I have to tread lightly on things like bleach.

I did not lighten. I bought two bottles, the darker purple and midnight blue, and tried doing sections of each color the first time.
The purple fades almost completely over about 4 weeks, which is expected behavior.
The blue takes a month or two to fade, but doesn't go away completely until I buzz it off (which I do every 4-8 weeks so not a concern for me)

When I first apply, it stains my scalp, but that's okay by me since my hair is so thin.

It doesn't make me break out.

The smell, I can stand, but I don't like it. I'm really sensitive to a lot of fragrances, this I can put up with.

I've processed as little as 30 minutes and as much as 2 1/2 hours (long story, I got distracted, lol!) The longer processing DID result in stronger color that lasted longer, but not so much that it was worth sitting that long.

I paint it on, then wrap it up with saran wrap, and sit for 30-60 minutes usually. the color comes out super intense.

Plain midnight blue is a very dark teal.
The purple is a deep violet.
I usually mix them, and get a gorgeous ultramarine that fades like denim. They mix easily.
Alcohol takes it off skin pretty much immediately.

I've gotten about 7 or 8 applications out of 2 tubes that I use together, so at $7 per tube from Sally (I buy locally) it is a fantastic deal. But my hair is super, duper short.
It does rub off a bit on my pillow for a day or two.

How do you use semi

Apply the Perfect Intensity® shade that you would like to add for that pop of color! Use fine even sections and make sure you saturate the hair completely with color for best results. Process up to 30 minutes for maximum color result. Strand test every 5 minutes until desired color is achieved.

How long should I leave one n only hair color?

Process for 30 minutes. If you are covering gray, process for 45 minutes. To refresh previously colored hair, work the remainder of the color through the ends and process for up to 5 minutes before the end of processing time. Once the hair color has processed, rinse, shampoo and conditioner.

What does N mean in permanent hair color?

Natural (N) shades are ideal for keeping your natural tone. PRO-TIP: N is best for covering gray hair and giving a natural-looking result. Since gray hairs have lost their natural pigment, they soak up dyes more steadily. That means that brighter color and reds won't always look natural.
