Total time spent on journey = 10/30 + 10/40 + 10/50 = 20 minutes + 15 minutes + 12 minutes = 47 minutes
Motorist spent 12 minutes at 50 miles/hr speed.

Time taken to travel 10 miles @:

30mph = \(\frac{10}{30}\) = \(\frac{1}{3}\) hr = 20 mins
40mph = \(\frac{10}{40}\) = \(\frac{1}{4}\) hr = 15 mins
50mph = \(\frac{10}{50}\) = \(\frac{1}{5}\) hr = 12 mins

Total Time for the entire trip = 47 mins

%of trip traveled @ 50mph = \(\frac{12}{47}\)

T¹= (10/30) hrs = 20 mins
T²= (10/40) hrs = 15 mins
T³= (10/50) hrs = 12 mins

Total driving time = 47 mins

Therefore, portion of time spent driving at 50miles/hr = 12/47

The answer will be E.

Total time = 1/3 +1/4 +1/5 ... Time taken on 50 mph = 1/5/ (1/3+1/4+1/5) = 12 / 47 .... E
