   I think that this song is about an aromantic person who’s in a romantic relationship with someone. The partner is in love with the aromantic, but they can’t return that love romantically. The partner might be hoping that the aromantic will fall in love with them anyway, but that’s not how it works.
   The aromantic cares about the partner a lot, but not romantically. Even if they want to love romantically, they can’t.
   The line about the partner being more important than the other people in the room shows how much the aromantic loves the partner and how important they are to them despite not being able to love them romantically.

   The song is very clear to me having been the guy that does nothing but love love love a girl who can't reciprocate. I met a girl in May of last year who quickly became one of my closest friends, we shared adventures, laughs, tears, goals, ambitions and all of our deepest and darkest secrets, and even some intimate moments. Like a fool I waited until November to express everything I felt for her and by this time she was in a relationship with another, she wept when she had to reject my love, and I know it hurts her to this day as we have the best chemistry and were probably meant to be, but she can't give me love in return, I know through mutual friends and from observing in her eyes that she loves me, but can't "Love me" and it's the worst feeling in the world. This song connects in a very real way, and I don't want to like it, but I love love love it still.

   I think, what the interpretation could also be, next to someone new to love or even a person that has broken someone's heart, could be an insecure person. Cause at the beginning, she is singing about her self in the worst way possible. She is a crook, a bad person, but she knows. In the meantime, there is the partner, who actually doesn't think that way at all. They love the insecure one so much and do anything for them, but the insecure one is so afraid to hurt the other person, to not be good enough or after all enough for them. So she builds a wall, and says she can't love, just so the other finally leaves them alone, but they won't. They won't cause they hope, if they keep it up, maybe the other sees that everything will be okay. A bit like Anna and Elsa, but as a romantic relationship between non relatives of course

   to me it's funny that apparently everyone who has commented here tends to think that it is about a girl who somehow broke a guy's heart because of the first part of the song.
   but then i realized that my interpretation of this song has a lot to do with who i am (and certainly it happens to everyone)

   i don't see someone who broke another person's heart, i see someone who simply can't love, or doesn't know how to deal with this thing. maybe because it's a new thing to him/her, or maybe because he/she is affraid of getting hurt. the "almost"-loved-one knows about the mixed feelings this person is going through. maybe this person's indecision hurts the "loved one" in some way... maybe not.
   i don't know if what i say here makes any sense to anyone, but to me the song is about how confusing love can be, and not necessarily about breaking someone's heart.

   I think it’s about a woman who is married and has an affair with a man who falls in love with her, but she can’t or won’t leave her husband. I think she loves him back, but not enough. Because she is married she can’t truly ever love him the way he wants her to.

   For me, this song is about a girl who sees this guy loving her, but she simply doesn't feel the same way about him, she simply can't love him and there's nothing she can do about it. She feels guilty, though, because she (unintentionally)"stole his heart", she made him love her when she can't do the same and can't even make herself care about it, so she feels like a bad person.
   I've experienced this myself actually, and that's exactly how I felt, guilty and I just couldn't understand why I couldn't make myself love him (he was the perfect guy in every aspect, seriously), and the worst part was not being able to undestand. Well, not until I finally realized I was in love with my best (female) friend, and later that I simply could never love a boy like that.

   The goat thing is in love with the sea creature but the song is in the sea creatures perspective and they can't love each other because the goat thing will drown if it goes in the water to pursue a relationship with the serpent and the relationship will go wrong because they're in two different circumstances.

   I think that it's about a person (the goat/minotaur) trying to love another person, but fails in doing so because of a rough past (Well, maybe I'm a crook for stealing your heart), and tries to break up with them (So I think it's best to forget before we dwell on it).

   But, they fail because the other person (serpent) still loves them deeply. Feeling guilty, they commit suicide, or murder the person (serpent). (And these fingertips will never run through your skin).

   The room filled with people who are less important than you are the person (serpent's ) friends, who first introduced them.

   I dunno, just my idea :)

    She is currently in a relationship. They had an encounter but he's not pressing her to continue. As she has made it clear she cannot return his love because she is with someone else. It's ultimately about a pure love that cannot be implemented because of the circumstances.

    I feel this song is about two people in dire times who are in love but they come from very different families e.g different religions, or from 2 countries at war.. Theres no way their society will let them live together..thats how great the divide between their people is..so one of them is convincing the other to forget their shared memories n to move on..

    I think to two are a married couple having a hard time. The man is loving her even when she is being difficult, and its making her realize how much she loves him all over again. His patience with her brings her back to him. I love, love, love this song.

    THis song is a perfect follow of Peeta Mellark and Katniss Everdeen's relationship in the Hunger Games. Peeta is hopelessly in love with Katniss but Katniss doesn't know if she loves Peeta or Gale. If you look at the lyrics it is clear to all you Hunger Games fans. (If you haven't reda the books, READ THEM.) xx
