Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Season 2 Trailer Released

Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation in one season has already been considered by many to be the best isekai anime of the decade.

Mushoku tensei isekai ittara honki dasu season 2 release date

Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnationis one of the most well-received isekai anime in recent memory, with its first season being a notable success. The anime's second season was announced back in March, with a trailer for the upcoming series released on day three of Anime Expo 2022.

The trailer appears to follow Rudeus having an inner dialogue with himself. It opens with Rudeus traveling through a snowy forest while his face is obscured by a hood. As he traverses the scenes fade into one another to show Rudeus adventuring with several new adventurers he seems to have met at a bar, and a woman who bears a striking resemblance to him wielding a bow.

The Trailer also shows a number of beast people and a human reading a book while in a uniform which may mean Rudeus makes it to the magic school he has sought to attend since part one of season 1. As the trailer comes to a close, we are bombarded with several images of new and old characters without much context to go with it as Rudeus tells himself to never forget who he used to be and that despite all he lost he still has kept and gained much more.

The trailer does not offer many contexts for anything, but it does offer a lot of imagery and detail. It also gives seems to indicate that season 2 will happen after a time skip, as Rudeus is much older than he was at the end of season 1 and appears to have made it to the academy. There is still the mysterious elf character with silver hair from last season who is shrouded in mystery that will undoubtedly be an important player in the upcoming season, and we still need to see more. The most exciting part of the trailer though is its end as it shows a small girl wearing the same clothes we would typically see donned by Sylphie, being worn by a young elf girl with silver hair being found by two strangers in a flower field as she sleeps.

Jobless Reincarnation is an isekai anime that follows the life of a 34-year-old man who dies and is reborn in a fantasy world as a young boy named Rudeus. He maintains his memories, and knowledge from his time as an adult and decides he will use this second chance at life to be better and more successful than he was before, righting all the wrongs of his previous life. Season 1 was told in two different parts and part 2 ends with Rudeus going on a journey by himself to find his mother who had ended up lost and separated from him earlier in the series.

While the trailer succeeds in whetting the appetite of fans, much about the upcoming season remains a mystery. However, fans can can always turn to the light novels if they want to see more of Rudeus' adventures.

Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation will be released on Crunchyroll simulcast in 2023.

Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation season 2 confirmed by Studio Bind

On Sunday, March 6th, the Studio Bind production company officially renewed Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation for season 2.

The announcement was made via the series’ official website, which explained that the news was first shared at “the pre-screening of the TV unbroadcast episode [OVA]” in Japan.

“What kind of drama will Rudeus play in the second period? What kind of adventure will you develop!” – Mushokutensei_A Twitter page.

However, fans of the Mushoku Tensei anime had already been extremely confident that the series would eventually be making a return to the small screen. This is because anime renewals typically depend on two factors, popularity and source material – both of which the series has plenty of.

According to Anime Geek, the season 1 finale of Mushoku Tensei finished by adapting up until volume 6 of the original light novel series, which is volume 10 in the ongoing manga adaptation.

The good news is that, at the time of writing, 25 volumes of the light novel and 16 volumes of the manga have been published in Japan, meaning there is plenty of source material left to adapt for TV!

Popularity is another factor that Mushoku Tensei has on its side. Whilst Funimation may not publicly reveal their viewership for simulcast titles, it’s obvious that the series has been adored by millions of fans around the world.

The series is currently scoring an 8.5/10 on IMDB and an 8.77/10 on MyAnimeList with over 271,000 reviews; ratings typically high enough to merit a renewal. The series has also been widely popular domestically in Japan, reportedly regularly topping the weekly television rankings.

This is all, of course, in addition to the teaser for season 2 that featured at the end of episode 23; with Redeus set to attend the University of Magic (the next story arc in the light novel series).

Interestingly, there had been a number of reports circulating online that the second anime season, as well as the third, could already be in production as far back as May 2021.

Popular Twitter page and typically-reliable ‘leaker’ “SugoiLITE” shared the report that “TV anime “Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation” Seasons 2 & 3 are currently in production.”

Whilst fans should note that no information on season 3 was shared in the official announcement, many are now curious as to what date season 2 of Mushoku Tensei could release.

Predicting a release date for Mushoku Tensei season 2

The anime adaptation of the Mushoku Tensei series was first announced in March 2019 and was originally scheduled to premiere in 2020, before the ongoing coronavirus pandemic forced a delay until January 2021.

The pandemic continued to cause problems for the series, delaying its second cour’s return from July to October of last year as well.

However, this extra time on the production line, alongside the supposed ‘leak’ from SugoiLITE being back in May 2021 and the upcoming OVA episode, does indicate that work on season 2 may have already started.

These factors, alongside the availability of source material, will likely mean that fans won’t have to wait for aeons for the hit series to return.

Based on the production schedule from season 1, HITC predicts that Mushoku Tensei season 2 will release in October 2022, as part of the Fall broadcasting slate, or January 2023 as part of the Winter schedule.

Fans can look forward to the OVA with a sense of relief now

Thankfully, there is actually some more Mushoku Tensei content to be released before season 2 eventually makes its return to TV.

This is because a special unaired episode of the anime is set to be released later this month as an OVA.

The episode will be titled “Eris’s Goblin Subjugation” and will be available as part of the 4th Blu-ray DVD volume, set to release in Japan on March 16th.

Unfortunately, an international release date and OTT streaming partner has not yet been shared. You can check out a full breakdown of the OVA here.
