The learn button for your garage door opener is located on the back or side of the garage door

opener motor. The learn button allows you to program compatible remotes to your garage

door opener. You may notice that different garage door openers have different colored learn

buttons. These colors are important as they let you know what frequency your garage door

openers receiver operates on, and thus what remotes and keypads will be compatible with your

opener.

If your garage door opener has a “Yellow” learn button , it utilizes the Security+ 2.0 technology.

Replacement remotes for your unit must also utilize the Security+ 2.0 technology. Check your

owner’s manual for compatible remotes for your brand opener as well. Manufactured since

2011 and transmits on 310,315 or 390 MHZ.

If your garage door opener has either “Red” or “Orange” learn button, it utilizes Security+

390 Mhz Rolling Code technology. Replacement remotes and keypads must also utilize Security+

390 Mhz Rolling Code technology. Check your owner’s manual for compatible remotes for your

brand operator as well.

There is also the older DIP switch system(8-12 switches) that operates on the 300-400Mhz and

was manufactured from 1984-1993.

*Note: Not all remotes are compatible with your opener even if the brand of the remote is

the same brand as the opener. Different model numbers utilize different frequencies even

with the same manufacturer. The color of the button is one way to determine what remotes

will be compatible with your garage door opener.
