Our Breeding Philosophy -

The pedigrees of all of our dams and sires contain champion show and/or working bloodlines, including Tabatha, Sandylands, Dickendall, Lawnwood, and Rocheby; however, out-crossing  (creating new genetic combinations by bringing together genes from unrelated Labradors to eliminate undesirable traits caused by recessive genes) is the fundamental philosophy of our breeding program.  We do not inbreed.  How do wild animal populations manage to remain healthy for thousands of generations (without DNA testing)? They don't lose important genes from the gene pool. In the wild, animals occasionally move from herd to herd, or flock to flock, which helps to restore genetic diversity to the population. If a particular group becomes isolated, and new individuals are prevented from entering the population, the gene pool is effectively closed. Breeders of other domestic animals understand this. Dogs are no different, and we put this truth into practice. By adhering to our scientifically-proven breeding philosophy, we ensure Tru-Heart puppies are born with sound temperaments, aesthetically-pleasing conformation, good bone, and genetic health and vigor.  Please watch the following video on this subject from the 2021 Embark Canine Health Summit:

English or American?

There is only one breed of dog known as the Labrador Retriever, as described by the official Standard of the Breed. Within the Labrador Retriever breed, there are variations in body styles produced according to the preferences of individual breeders. In the U.S., the general public has begun to mistakenly label these variations as "English" or "American", but more accurate descriptions are "show/conformation" or "working/field" styles.  In fact, the vast majority of Labrador Retrievers have moderate body styles much closer to the written breed standard.  Whether bred from show/conformation or working/field parents, individual puppies within a litter will represent the entire range - rarely the extremes - of the two styles. When choosing a Labrador Retriever puppy, remember, these labels do not predict temperament or trainability as an adult.

Let Us Help You Find Your New Furry Friend

Mosley Ranch Labradors was established in 2013 by veterinarians Drs. James and Tiffany Mosley. Located in the Mandarin area of Jacksonville, FL, we are dedicated to maintaining the breed standards while providing quality Labradors for local families.

About Our Dogs

We offer well-socialized Fox Red, Yellow, and Black Labs. All of them are active, fun loving, and great around kids.

Our family consists of two children, dogs, cats, rabbits, chickens, goats, a tortoise, a bearded dragon, and two adults (yes, we have a real life petting zoo!!). Our puppies get a ton of socialization before they meet their forever families. In addition to our breeding program, we live a very full life balanced between our children and running our small animal practice in our community. We feel very biased in our belief that Labrador Retrievers can bring specific and special qualities that you may desire ranging from athleticism, loyalty, and trainability. We hope you feel the same!

Do Labradors shed a lot?

There are quite a few breeds that are more likely to shed than others—and Labrador Retrievers near the top of the list. Because of their unique double coats, labs shed a lot throughout the year, and especially more so when the seasons begin to change.
Longtime devotees say the Lab's full toolbox of attractions offers up something for everyone – first of all, versatility and temperament. “Well-bred Labradors have absolutely the most wonderful temperaments,” says Judy Heim, of Turlock, California. “They are not the smartest breed.

Do Black Labs shed?

Sometimes one color shows up more in the home than another. It probably depends on what color your carpets are. But essentially black labradors shed, chocolate labradors shed, and yellow Labradors shed too. You can't avoid it by buying a Labrador of a different color.

What is a silver Labrador retriever?

The Silver Labrador has the same appearance as any colored Labrador, except, of course, his color. Many describe his color as a diluted brown, whereas many others describe his color as a shimmery silver. A Silver Labrador can be different shades of his color, depending on his parents and genes.
