Carbon Fiber hood??? or no?

Ok so ive been doing some research on carbon fiber hoods....im on the market for one but from what im getting it doesnt sound all what its crakced up too be?....people seem to averageing of keeping em for like 6 months if that????......i currently own a 07 cgm sti im rocking the sebion carbon trunk (fits....ehhhhh,dam carbon fiber,haha) but im looking to get a oem style hood to "complete" the look....now my questions to you,people are saying you cant rock your stock hood scoop with the wind splitter???(want the carbon fiber hood with stock painted scoop)....and im not quite convinced thats true???....also people say they wobble like a SOB when on the highway and crack easy ect,ect........sooo askn your thoughts?

and if you get all butt hurt cause i have a thread on this i did look around and try to find another but didnt see anything that would cover this....for all thoughs "sooper gay noob....noob sniffer....sniffer gay noob" guys that get a boner when people post wrong.....JUST HELP A GUY OUT!,haha

they can last if you take care of them and their not in the sun forever. Take care of it i mean by waxing it. Sometimes they dont have a good clear coat and they start to chip off. Some of my buddys have them and they seem to look good just depends on the maintenance and the quality. Theirs dont wobble. If its mounted properly and what not you should not have a problem. We all know they dont have the best fitment.

the reason for MOST other cars to use cf is weight

the sti already has an aluminum hood that IS lighter than 99% of all cf hoods you will find

so, in the end....a cf hood on an sti is a waste of all involved and will not be an improvement in anything but more kiddieness

so if ya NEED more kiddieness...go for it

oh yeah...you CAN get a FACTORY aluminum rear deck lid for the GD for less than you think....less than most cf rear lids

Like said above, they only crack when not properly taken care of. I had a VIS hood for over a year and never had one problem with it (heat or cold).

It's really only worth it if you're really into the look of it. They are a pain to maintain, and at least for most people, get old fast.

i've had my cf ood on my STI with the stock scoop for over a year and a half... no splitter cause i didnt want to put it back in. as far as the wobbling and shaking yea it does it a lil bit but nothing drastic.

reason i replaced my hood is car got showered by a truck on the highway with rocks.. wasnt worth getting repair so i just bought a cf hood.

yea IMO its all about your situation i would by no means buy a carbon hood just for the hell of it if my stock hood was fine, because 1 there pricy i hate to spend $600 and not see any performance gain 2 they are a pain to maintain, and 3 because they may have fitment problems. However i have been considering getting one lately because my hood was recently ****'d in a collision and i do not know if i want to deal with getting a hood painted because of matching problems and what not.

Scotty is right, except when talking about the GR's, its a big weight savings. But other then that i would stick with stock like many are suggesting. if your looking for the carbon fiber look then i would suggest getting the hood sprayed with a layer of clear. The gel coat that most CF parts come coated with is what breaks down over time.

quick question... if someone was to put a CF hood on a wrx would it create more understeer due to the lack of weight on the front wheels?

You can get Cf trunks cheaper than 535$

(price of aluminum unpainted trunk)

If you're doing it just for looks why not just vinyl warp it. You'll keep your oem look and save money. Check out some 3M vinyl wrap since they seem to be the best.

ya im not to keen on vynal??......i just dont trust it.....ive seen it crack...chip...fade bubble and everything else you can think of.....but who knows...maby ill give it a shot (probly end up doing the roof in it)

im actually interested in this too. i have always been a fan of carbon but i just want a reg hood with a sti(larger) scoop. the hood on the wrx wagon i am buying got hit with major hail so that is why im thinking of doing this. the only sti scooped hood i found is from vis? worth it? do they get old? just put a clear coat on it and it should do fine?

ive had mine for over 2 years in the mississippi sun, never covered. it flexes the worst when passing semi's at high speeds (80+), but nothing bad at all. i wax it once a month, sometimes twice. still looks new.

as long as you keep it clean and waxed and under some sorta cover like garage the hood will last forever !!!

Ive had a few. The stock hood is a lot lighter. The reason i got mine was because I liked the look and it didnt chip as easy. I had so many rock chips on my 02 wagon. I wanted something different.

Well i was thinking of vis? The only one i can find that is stock looking with a sti scoop. Any comments on vis? If i need to i will do seibon with normal scoop if its a quality issue. I do not have anything to put this car under. The hood currently has massive hail damage and that is why im looking to replace it. I have found some websites that have them for between 400-600? Ill post sites later if needed
