Air Compressor Services is a leading supplier and manufacturer of air oil separators for Ingersoll Rand Compressors. Quality, performance and efficiency are our top priorities when it comes to designing the right separator for any model of Ingersoll Rand compressor. We have been leading the compressor industry for years in replacement Ingersoll Rand separators, filters, oil, parts and accessories.

An air-oil separator is critical to the performance and longevity of your compressor by preventing oil loss through the sump tank. As the male and female rotors spin, at speeds up to 3800 RPM, they are lubricated with compressor oil and as the air gets compressed, so does the oil. When the air compresses, it creates an oil vapor or mist, which creates the need for an air-oil separator in an Ingersoll Rand compressor. It does exactly what it is called, separates the compressed air from the oil mist.

Oil scavenge lines are responsible for removing the oil out of the bottom of the separator and cycling it back into the oil system. Ingersoll rand compressors utilize the oil return line to prevent flooding of your separator which would eventually lead to oil loss down-line. While everyone likes well lubricated air-tools, you don't want it to be at the expense of the Ingersoll Rand air end. Once the oil is pulled out of the separator it travels through the oil filter to remove any debris that may lead to bearing failure. As the Ingersoll Rand separator closes in on its useful life, the differential pressure will begin to rise, pointing to the need for replacement.

Ingersoll Rand compressors are designed to handle two different types of air-oil separators depending on the model of the compressor. Some compressors, like the UP6 series, utilize a spin on separator but the SSR EP series Ingersoll compressors utilize the cartridge-or top hat style separator. The recommended life on most separators is 4,000 hours of runtime or once a year, whichever comes first. We understand the importance of proper maintenance and servicing Ingersoll Rand compressors, which is why we stock popular separators such as 54749247, 24121212, and 22388045. Ingersoll Rand 24121212 OEM Oil Separator Element for UP6 5-15 and R4-11

This separator element is one of the most popular filters used on several Ingersoll Rand rotary screw compressors. This was extremely common on the below models:

  • UP6-5, UP6-7.5, UP6-10, UP6-15C
  • UP6-5-TAS, UP6-7.5-TAS, UP6-10-TAS, UP6-15C-TAS
  • R4, R5.5, R7.5, R11
  • R4-TAS, R5.5-TAS, R7.5-TAS, R11-TAS
  • IRN 7.5, IRN 11, IRN 7.5-TAS, IRN 11-TAS

This is an OEM part made by Ingersoll Rand. Sometimes this part may be shown in your parts book as 22388045. If your old filter reads part number 22388045, the purchasing this 24121212 separator is correct for your compressor.

Ingersoll Rand recommends replacing the separator element every 2,000 hours or a minimum of once per year depending on your compressors run hours and operating schedule. The separator filter removes oil from the airstream before the air is sent downstream. Proactively changing the separator element will reduce the pressure drop across the sump tank, increasing your energy efficiency and preventing oil from getting into your air dryer or production equipment.

When changing the separator element, it is also recommended to change the compressor oil, oil filter, and air filter element.

Do I need an oil separator for my air compressor?

With the condensate of the average air compressor containing approximately 300 parts per million (ppm) of oil, it is necessary to have an oil/water separator installed to keep your facility within EPA's stringent regulations.

Can you clean air oil separator?

A suggested procedure for cleaning the air/oil separator is outlined below: Remove air/oil separator in accordance with the Aircraft Service Manual. Flush the air/oil separator with mineral spirits to remove oil. Utilizing compressed air, remove mineral spirits from air/oil separator.

What does an oil separator do in an air compressor?

Inside of your air compressor, you will find an internal oil-water separator. The internal separator separates the water from the oil that stays inside the compressor. This is the oil that is used to lube the rotary screw and other internal parts.
