The Mercedes that chases Paul and Ben had to be modified for filming, since that brand of car does not swerve very well in high-speed pursuits. When Robert De Niro is singing "I Feel Pretty", the lyrics used are those from the original stage version, as opposed to the film version of West Side Story (1961). The lyric "I feel pretty and witty and gay" is changed back from "gay" to "bright". Paul's main nemesis is named Ragazzi, which in Italian means "boys". Leo Rossi was initially meant to reprise his role of Carlo Mangano. Joe Reidy is, in real life, a professional AD and is considered to be one of the best ADs in the business. Actor Joe Viterelli's final movie. When Billy Crystals character asks Robert DeNiros character on what job he likes to do he replies back by saying "I like hitting guys over the head with a baseball bat" which is a reference to DeNiro's performance as Al Capone in The Untouchables (1987) Robert De Niro sings the song "I Feel Pretty" from West Side Story (1961). SpoilersThe trivia items below may give away important plot points. During the sequence where Dr. Sobel (Billy Crystal) tests Paul Vitti's (Robert De Niro) catatonic state, he makes a lot of noises and gestures to make Paul laugh in order to expose his catatonia as fake, which, of course, never happens. De Niro stated in an interview that it was really difficult for him to stay emotionless while Crystal was doing all those funny faces and sounds. The VHS credits includes the bloopers from this scene. When Paul (Robert De Niro) gets to reunite with his friends and tell them he's out of the mob business, one of them reminds him about some of his greatest crimes. He says, "Remember the strike on Air France? People are still talking about that!" This is a nod to De Niro's role as Jimmy Conway in Goodfellas (1990), in which Conway was part of a gang that stole millions from a Lufthansa terminal. Anthony LaPaglia plays true to life in this movie. He and his brother Jonathan LaPaglia are Italian-Australian actors, and Anthony has received flack over the years for portraying Italian-American characters. The dancer at the beginning was a last minute replacement, when the one who was originally cast never showed up. According to Harold Ramis' daughter Violet Ramis Stiel in her memoir: " Ghostbuster's Daughter: Life With My Dad, Harold Ramis", the production was a nightmare. Given the first film was a surprise hit, it was rushed into production and Ramis would either be writing or rewriting scenes at the same time locations were being scouted for those scenes. Ramis not having enough time to write everything, instructed the film's prop master to write the big heist scene when the prop master conceived that story idea.
