How to view deleted stories on instagram

Instagram stories that have not been archived can be retrieved within 24 hours from the time they are deleted after which they will be permanently deleted.

By Yasmin Ahmed: Last month Instagram started rolling out a feature that lets users review and restore deleted posts or stories within 24 hours. The feature called Recently Deleted now seems to be rolling out for all users. A user can restore a deleted story that has not been archived within 24 hours of deleting it. As for a permanent post or a story that has been archived, users can restore them within 30 days of deleting. The social media platform had rolled out this feature to give users a sense of control in case their accounts were to get hacked and posts deleted.

“We know hackers sometimes delete content when they gain access to an account, and until now people had no way of easily getting their photos and videos back,” Instagram in a blog post had noted. “We will ask people to first verify that they are the rightful account holders when permanently deleting or restoring content from Recently Deleted,” it added.

Here is how you can restore deleted post and stores on Instagram

-- Open Instagram.

-- Go to your Profile Picture.

-- Select Settings, then go to Account.

-- Scroll down till you see the Recently Deleted option, click on it.

-- Make sure you have the latest version of Instagram.

-- Select the post or story you want to restore, click on the three dots, and select Restore.

Instagram notes that the photos, videos, reels, IGTV videos, and stories you choose to delete are removed from your account immediately and moved to the Recently Deleted folder.

Once users select the Recently Deleted option from Settings, they will see all the recently deleted posts and stories. These stories and posts will only be available to those users after which they will be permanently deleted after the number of days beneath the post. “The posts will be permanently deleted after the number of days shows. After that, you won’t be able to restore them,” Instagram notes atop the folder. Users can also choose to permanently delete a post by selecting that option from the folder.

To archive an Instagram post: You can also archive an Instagram post instead of deleting it. This will ensure that you always have access to the post and it will only be available to you. To archive, a post, select on the three dots of the Instagram post you want to archive then select Archive.

To archive an Instagram story or an Instagram Live: You can also archive an Instagram story and or an Instagram Live get access to them later as they are only visible for 24 hours.

-- Go on the top right-hand side and select the hamburger menu or three dots.

-- Select Archive.

-- Select three dots > Settings.

-- Turn the toggle on for Save Story to Archive or Save Live to Archive.

Exactly a year ago, Instagram introduced Recently Deleted, a useful feature that allows users to restore the deleted content. This means any photos, videos, stories, and reels you delete are moved to the Recently Deleted folder in the Instagram app. The recently deleted content gets automatically deleted forever after 30 days. During those 30 days, one can either restore or permanently delete the desired content. Note that only you can see and recover deleted posts, stories, reels, or highlights on Instagram.

How do I see my deleted Instagram posts?

Until now Instagram users could find their deleted content by going to Settings > Account > Recently Deleted. However, after the recent update, you might not be able to find content that you’ve recently deleted. That’s because the new UI changes the way how you see recently deleted on Instagram 2022. Likewise, you might get lost when trying to find posts you liked on Instagram 2022.

Well, are you running the latest version of the Instagram app and have got the new “Your activity” experience? In that case, check the updated steps to go to recently deleted on Instagram 2022. The below procedure is the same for both iPhone and Android.

1. Go to your profile tab and tap the Menu button at the top-right.
2. Select “Your activity”.
   
3. On the ‘Your activity’ screen, go to “Recently deleted“. Here you can view and manage content that you’ve recently deleted.
   
4. Tap the relevant tab at the top to find your recently deleted profile posts, videos, reels, or archived stories.
   

You can also see the number of days after which a particular item will be permanently deleted.

How to recover deleted posts on Instagram 2022

To restore or permanently delete content from recently deleted in your activity within 30 days,

1. Go to the ‘Recently Deleted’ directory and select the appropriate tab.
2. Open the particular post you want to recover or delete.
3. Tap the 3-dots (shown either at top or bottom) next to a post, reel, video, or story.
   
4. Select ‘Restore’ and tap Restore again to restore the content. The post will be restored either to your profile or archive, depending on its last origin.
   
5. Or choose ‘Delete’ and tap Delete again to delete the content forever.

Sadly, there is no option to delete or restore multiple posts at once. Also, you cannot recover deleted reels drafts on Instagram.

How to see deleted stories on Instagram 2022

As you may know, an Instagram story you share disappears on its own after 24 hours. After that, stories are automatically saved to your stories archive unless you turn off the ‘Save story to archive’ option in Settings.

Meanwhile, unarchived stories (stories that aren’t in your Instagram archive) stay in Recently deleted for 24 hours only. On the other hand, archived stories are automatically deleted after 30 days. This means that you can restore an unarchived story within 24 hours and an archived one within 30 days of deletion.

Now let’s see how to see and restore a deleted Instagram Story.

1. Open the ‘Recently Deleted’ section in the Instagram app.
2. Tap the Stories tab at the top.
3. In the recently deleted stories, find and open the story you want to restore.
   
4. Tap the ‘More‘ option (3-dot) at the bottom-right.
   
5. Tap ‘Restore’ and select Restore again to recover the deleted story.
   

That’s it. People will be able to see your story again if you shared it within the past 24 hours or added it to your story highlights. Meanwhile, the story will be restored to your archive if you deleted it from your stories archive.
