How to remove glass from ge oven door

On most wall ovens and ranges, you can clean between the glass in the window on the door if streaks appear. If the instructions below do not apply to your model, then service would be required to disassemble the door and clean the glass.

NOTE: For models that have cameras in the door, we do not recommend cleaning between the oven door glass. Damage to the camera could occur. We recommend that you contact service.

Follow the below steps to clean the glass inside the oven door:

  1. Place a towel on either the floor or a large work surface in your kitchen to protect the oven door when you remove it.

  2. Remove the door. Note: wearing a pair of sturdy work gloves will protect your hands during this step.

    1. Start by opening the door fully, pulling the hinge locks located in the lower corners down toward the door frame until they are in the unlocked position. Since hinge designs may vary among models, be sure to consult your model's Owner's Manual.

    2. Firmly grasp both sides of the door at the top and close the door until it reaches the removal position. The door will be open about 3 inches, making an approximately 75 degree angle. Make sure there is nothing obstructing the door.

    3. Lift the door up and out until both hinge arms are clear of the slots. Be careful as you lift the door as it may be a bit heavy.

    4. Lay the door down, handle side down, on the towel.

  3. In a medium-sized container, mix up a solution of mild dish soap and warm water.

  4. Wrap a wash or dish cloth around the end of a yard stick, securing the cloth with tape or a rubber band. Soak the cloth in the soapy solution.

  5. Insert the yard stick, cloth-covered end first, into the opening at the bottom of the door. Do not force the yard stick in between the glass and allow room for movement so as not to bend or break the glass.

    • Be sure to thoroughly wet any stains and let the solution soak in for about 2 to 3 minutes.

    • Scrub the stains with the cloth-covered yardstick until they're gone, rewetting the cloth as necessary.

  6. Rinse the cloth, re-attach it to the yardstick with the tape or rubber band and use the wet cloth to rinse the scrubbed areas. Be sure that you remove all soap residue.

  7. Replace the wet cloth on the yardstick with a dry, lint-free cloth or paper towel and insert it into the door opening to dry the inside of the door.

  8. Replace the door once the inside is dry, re-attach the door by grasping it on each side at the top.

    1. Start on the left side and hold the door at the same 75-degree angle at which it was removed.

    2. Insert the hinge arm into the hinge slot, making sure it is fully seated.

    3. Then, repeat this process on the right side of the door.

    4. Open the door fully and firmly push the hinge locks against the front frame of the oven cavity into the locked position.

    5. Close the oven door.
