However, if you want to save some of the stories and make them visible as a pin in your profile, you can do it with a feature called Highlights.

Instagram Highlights is a new tool which enables users to hold on to their favourite memories from Instagram Stories. Highlights appear below your profile photo. So you can add stories to appear on your profile as highlights, even after they disappear.

Create Highlight from the active story

You can create a post, a story and manually save it in a Highlight from the active story.

Create Highlight from photos or archived stories

If you have activated the Archive option, then all your stories will save automatically in your archive section. Hence, from there you can choose which stories to be organized in a Highlight.

How to add Instagram story to a highlight

Follow the below-given steps to add Instagram story to a highlight.

Step 1: First you need to open Instagram account on your device.

Step 2: Next go to your profile and tap Story Highlights below your username and bio.

Step 3: You need to tap New, the plus icon (+).

Step 4: Next you need to select the story or stories you want to add to highlights and then tap Next.

You may notice that the cover images are usually the images in the stories that you've selected for that particular Highlight. But you change the Highlights covers without sharing them in a story. Here are the steps you need to follow to edit the cover picture of the Highlights.

Step 5: Tap Edit Cover and choose a cover photo.

Step 6: Once you have selected a photo for cover tap Done.

Step 7: Add or enter a story name for your highlight, then tap Add (iPhone) or Done (Android).

Once you're done, your highlight will appear as a circle on your profile that plays as a stand-alone story when someone taps it. Apart from the above-given steps, you can create Highlight from the active story.

How to create Highlight from the active story

If you have an active story and you want to make sure this story is added to a Highlight just follow these steps:

Step 1: Open Instagram account on your device.

Step 2: Next tap on the active story to view it.

Step 3: You need to tap the bottom option Highlight.

Step 4: Tap the plus icon to create New Highlight.

Step 5: Now enter the name of the new Highlight.

Step 6: Now need to tap Add.

Once you do this, your new Highlight will appear on your profile photo and your followers will be able to view it even after the 24 hour story lifetime.

At any time you can add more photos or videos to your highlight. Here are the steps you can follow to add more stories in a Highlight.

How to add more stories in a Highlight

To add more photos or videos to your highlight you need to follow the below-given steps:

Step 1: Open Instagram account on your device.

Step 2: Go to your profile and long-press the Highlight you want to edit.

Step 3: Next tap Edit Highlight.

Step 4: Choose the stories you want to add and tap Done.

Stories that you add as highlights remain visible as highlights until you remove them, even after the original story has disappeared.

Importance of Instagram Highlights

You can use Instagram Highlights to educate people about your previous activities posted in the stories. You can even use it to tell an ongoing story. Highlight makes your stories accessible to new followers. Keep in mind that those you have allowed to see your story can also see your highlights.
