How to make your iphone not vibrate

IPhones use both a ring mode and vibrate mode to alert the user that an incoming call or message is being received. When your iPhone rings, but does not vibrate, it may be because the vibrate function is not turned on, or it could be caused by a problem with the iPhone's firmware. Fortunately, you can troubleshoot your iPhone to see if you can get it to vibrate.

  1. Move the ringer switch located on the side of your iPhone on and off to see if you can get it to vibrate.

  2. Restart your iPhone by holding the "On/Off" button until the red-colored slider appears on the screen. Move the slider to the right with your finger to turn off your iPhone. Turn your iPhone back on by pressing the "On/Off" button. Test the vibrate function by moving the ringer switch to see if it will vibrate.

  3. Reset your iPhone by pressing and holding the "On/Off" button and the "Home" button on your iPhone simultaneously for 10 seconds.

  4. Tap "Settings" located on your iPhone's home screen. Tap "Sounds." Locate the "Vibrate" heading under Ringers and Alerts. Move the slider on the bar located next to "Vibrate" all the way over to the right to turn it on.

  5. Restore your iPhone by connecting it to your computer with the iPhone USB cable. When it detects your iPhone, your computer should automatically open iTunes. If it does not, open iTunes by double-clicking on the icon.

  6. Wait for your iPhone to be listed in iTunes under "Devices" located on the left side of the iTunes window. Click the "Summary" tab. Click "Restore." Click "Back Up" to back up your iPhone settings.

  7. Click "Restore" and then click "OK." When your iPhone is restored to its factory settings, it restarts and reconnects to iTunes. Update your iPhone if you are prompted to do so.

  8. Enable the vibrate function by tapping "Settings" and then tapping "Sounds." Tap the button next to vibrate under "Ringer and Alerts." Move the ringer switch on and off to see if you can get your iPhone to vibrate. If these steps do not help, take your iPhone to the nearest Apple store or contact customer support at Apple's website. The vibrate mechanism in your iPhone may be defective, or it may be stuck and need repair.

When you're in a meeting or attending a presentation, your iPhone's silent mode might not be quiet enough. If you set the iPhone to vibrate in silent mode, it still makes an audible buzzing sound that may bother or disrupt others. If you need your iPhone to stay completely quiet, temporarily disable vibration. You can turn off vibration when silent mode is on, off or both.

  1. Tap "Settings," and then tap "Sounds."

  2. Tap the button next to "Vibrate on Ring." The button text changes from "On" to "Off." If you disable this option, the iPhone won't vibrate when it rings.

  3. Tap the button next to "Vibrate on Silent." The iPhone won't vibrate during incoming calls if you've enabled silent mode.

The iPhone's vibration feature alerts you to incoming texts, emails, or phone calls with a vibrating sensation, rather than a ringtone that plays aloud.

While you can leave your iPhone's volume on while also utilizing vibration, the feature provides a more inconspicuous way to let you know something's going on on your iPhone.

But how do you turn off vibration when you no longer want to use it?

If you don't want your iPhone to vibrate when receiving calls or messages, disabling the feature only takes a few seconds and can be reenabled at any time should you wish to use it again in the future.

Here's how to toggle vibration on and off in just a few simple steps.
