How to make 6d hair extensions

6D hair extensions are not a type of hair extension, but a method of hair extensions in which an extension tool is loaded with a row of very tiny hair extensions.  Hair is divided into rows, and the tool (gun) creates small sectioned hair extensions.  The problem with this application? Our hair follicle density varies in different areas of the head, therefore, an area of the head with high density will require a larger section and low density will require a longer possibly wider section.  I much prefer to create my own section based on my client's hair follicle density per square inch.  The 6D hair extension method is better for finer hair than thicker hair, but I feel the sections are too small to support hair extensions over the long haul.  The company claims that "anyone" can apply for your extensions, this is simply not true.  An expert understands the appropriate amount of hair to support a hair extension, and the areas of the head requiring more or, fewer hair extensions which creates a custom application.

Hair extensions are not one size fits all, nor are our heads!  The small sections allow for hair extension slippage once the natural hair shedding process begins.  We shed over 100 +/- strands of hair per day, and the shedding will ultimately release the hair extensions too soon.

I Tested The System

The system claims that a full head of hair extensions (100 to 200 pieces) can be applied in 20 minutes.  Firstly, the application takes at least an hour to an hour and a half, if you're paying attention to what you are doing.  The gun needs to be reloaded and I found that some of the extensions simply did not attach because my client did not have enough room to fit the hair. The benefit of this system is to help a stylist work quicker, but the end result does not benefit the client.  The hair cost is the same,  and the extensions do not last as long in the hair.

Best Option

If individual strand extensions are your choice, opt for a custom application as described above.  Do not let an unlicensed individual touch your hair!  Seek a professional stylist, licensed with hundreds of hair extension applications under their belt.  You will not save money in the long run, and the risk of damaging your hair follicles is ten-fold.

There Is More Than One Option

Today's market offers a myriad of application methods that may be better suited for your hair and lifestyle.  Researching a highly experienced salon is guaranteed to create a perfect hair extension experience.  You may prefer a hand-tied, pull-thru or,  tape-in technique.

Free Consultations

After researching a highly trained/experienced salon, ask for a free consultation in which a salon evaluates your hair and shows you more than one application method.  Ask to see the actual hair they will be using  (color, texture, and length).

You also need a visual of how the extensions look in hair, this may be on a mannequin head or a person.  You want to understand the longevity, maintenance, and products that are required.

In Conclusion

The 6D extension application is not suited for everyone! The art and creativity of hair extensions are completely taken away with this application.  Do your research and feel free to comment below with questions you may have.

What is a 6D Hair Extension?

6D hair extensions, also known as six-dimensional extensions, aren’t a type of hair extension. It is more like a hair extension method that’s growing in popularity over the recent years.

6D hair extensions are so-named because the method involves a machine attaching six separate hair extensions at once.

6D extensions are fast becoming the hair extension method of choice for most users for obvious reasons. Not only is it incredibly fast (6 >1), it is also low-maintenance and doesn’t require any chemicals, tapes, glue, or heat.

The entire process of installing a 6D hair extension takes about 20 minutes, sometimes less, depending on the hair volume.

It’s also easy to remove a six-dimensional hair extension, and you don’t even need to see a stylist for that. However, it helps to have a stylist apply your 6D hair extensions, as it’s always easy to mess things up when you’re dealing with your hair.

How Long Do 6D Hair Extensions Last?

Most people love 6D hair extensions because they can last longer than most other hair extension methods, and they don’t even need any salon maintenance.

That’s right; after fixing your hair using a 6D hair extension, you can get the best out of it without using specialized hair care products or paying a visit to the stylist every weekend.

That said, hair extensions are best for the first four to six months and can typically last up to eight months without any significant quality decline.

Depending on the quality of the hair extension you end up getting, your 6D extension may last for up to a year before you need any replacement.

Factoring in the fact that you’re spending almost nothing for maintenance, it’s easy to understand why most people go the 6D route while applying hair extensions to their hair.

Speaking of how long 6d hair extensions last on hair, I would say it depends on how fast your hair grows and the overall hair care routine, but it should last for 6-8 weeks.

How Much Do 6D Hair Extensions Cost?

Before getting a hair extension, you should calculate the immediate costs, as well as the potential costs of the treatment over the long term.

If you only consider the apparent costs of a hair extension process, you may end up paying significantly higher than what you would pay if you went for another that looks more expensive.

Before getting to how much 6D hair extensions can cost, we should look at the bigger picture. In the end, it seems the bulk of the price of an extension isn’t dependent on what hair extension method you choose.

The total cost of your hair extension depends on the extension length, the type of extension you need, and what caliber of stylist will be handling the application.

Since 6D hair extensions are low-maintenance, you only have to worry about the upfront costs. After you get the hair on your head, you’re back to normal, only needing a reset in a year or thereabouts.

And to the cost of 6D hair extensions, you should expect to pay around $200-$500 for the process. As 6D hair extensions are a superior kind of micro-link extensions, the price should be relatively affordable.

However, this price doesn’t include the cost of buying the hair, as you’ll also have to consider that and add it to the total cost.

Your stylist will do a more accurate job of estimating the total amount you’ll be shelling out for a 6D hair extension when you decide on the details.

6D Extension Kit

If you run a haircare business, you’ll need to get a hair extension kit for 6D hair, as you’ll receive many inquiries for the hair extension method.

You can find the hair extension kit on shopping websites like Amazon, and they aren’t too expensive. You can get one for as low as $150, with high-quality ones costing up to $500.

If you don’t run a haircare business, buying this hair extension kit may be overkill. Firstly, you won’t be needing more than once or twice every year. Also, there is a high possibility that you’ll run back to your stylist when you mess up the hair anyway, so why bother?

If you enjoy following DIY tutorials, however, you can get the kit. However, we don’t recommend trying your first hair extension practice on a friend to avoid unwanted consequences.

Consider buying some natural or synthetic 6D extension-ready hair, as you’ll always need them for the process. It’s easier to sell to customers instead of having everyone buy theirs before coming for the application.

Where to Buy 6D Hair Extensions

Before any hair extension process, you’ll need to buy the hair extension first. If you’re planning a 6D hair application, you want to make sure you buy compatible extensions to simplify the process.

There are so many factors to consider when buying a 6D hair extension that anyone will agree that it’s a pain. However, you can skip the pains of buying it yourself by getting it from your stylist directly; or having your stylist buy it on your behalf.

Real hair extensions cost significantly higher than synthetic ones. If you have a low budget, you should consider getting synthetic extensions. However, synthetic hair extensions they’re generally inferior to real hair extensions.

Once you’ve decided what kind of extension you’re buying, you can determine if you’ll be buying it yourself or through your stylist.

If you decide to get it yourself, you can check local stores that sell hair care products. If you can’t find what you want, you can consider shopping at online stores like Amazon, Aveda, or House of Beauty.

But always remember that the best place to buy hair extensions will always be your stylist unless they lack what you want.

Why should you even care about getting a 6D hair extension anyway?

With so many possible hair extension methods, there are reasons for 6D extensions’ popularity.

Here are some of the reasons you should consider getting this extension method over other competing ones available.

  1. Low maintenance

Frankly, everyone wants the best possible hair for the least amount of work. It’s not just you, but humans naturally wired tread the path of least resistance.

It’s no wonder that most people prefer the hair extension method that comes with minimum overhead costs. If regular visits to the salon aren’t your thing, you’ll like the idea of a 6D extension.

  1. Quick to apply and remove

A 6D hair extension typically takes around 20 minutes for an entire head application. Compare that to K-tips or I-tips that take 3 to 4 hours, and you’ll see there’s virtually no competition.

6D extensions are also easy to remove. While some hair extension methods have a complicated removal process, 6D extensions will slide off once you pop the microbeads.

  1. Lasts long

With a process that requires minimal maintenance, you may expect it to last for only a couple of weeks, at most.

But as I hinted earlier in the article, 6D extensions can last anywhere from four months up to a year, depending on the quality of hair you get.

6D Hair Extensions Cons

Regardless of how good they may be, 6D extensions aren’t perfect. Some flaws mar the experience, making other hair extension options viable too.

The truth is, there aren’t many disadvantages to getting a 6D extension. If you count the above-average upfront cost as a con, then you have one here.

Generally, you may choose not to use a 6D extension if it doesn’t work well with your hair, but that’s not a general problem with a 6D hair extension. Even if your hair doesn’t work well with the extension method, you should be fine for the first four to six months of using an extension.

Conclusion

6D hair extensions will easily make a top list of the best hair extension styles due to their numerous benefits and nonexistent disadvantages.

It’s hard to find a haircare procedure that’s low-maintenance and lasts long. 6D extension has both of these qualities.

It’s also quick to apply and equally easy to remove, but we recommend getting recommendations from your stylist throughout the process.
