How to hook up nintendo switch to roku tv

Assuming you have an empty HDMI port,

But that's the thing, I don't! It's an old tube TV whose only input is one composite currently used by the Roku box. Since no other modern device natively works with a tube TV, I'd prefer to play through my Roku box if possible.

I know switches and converters are a thing, but I'd rather not trash image quality nor lose the sound. If Roku has no app for the Switch, is there any other app that could connect them, perhaps via casting over WiFi?

A Switch Lite [is only for] playing without a TV in a handheld manner.

Oh, so it's just like a Gameboy! Thanks for the info. The last time I played Mario Bros was at a friend's house in the eighties so I had no idea.

I currently have a TLC 50 inch TV with Roku. Model # C105X, software version up to date 9.3.0:4194. I recently had to send in my Nintendo Switch for a faulty dock. It was no longer charging or transmitting anything to the T, the dock was fully broken. They literally replaced every part I sent in, dock, HDMI cable, power cord, and switch itself, so all these are brand new and tested to work.

Here's the thing. My switch will no longer show up on any of the HDMI ports. I know the ports are fine as I am able to see my Xbox One or my computer on all three ports. I know the HDMI cord is fine because I tried it out with my Xbox One. I also know everything with the switch working because I am able to plug it into a different tv with no problem.

When I deactivate all my HDMI inputs, and place my switch on the dock it comes up saying "what would you like to name HDMI one?" aka it acknowledges something is connected. But instead of transmitting an image or sound it simply says "No signal, (is it on?)" I also tried an entire factory reset of my tv and it's still having the same issues.

Tl;Dr: brand new Switch, works on other tv, will not display anything on TCL Roku TV, even though it acknowledges it's plugged in. Other devices work on the HDMI ports and with switch cable. Previous Switch worked fine. Help?

Edit to add(4/24/21): This TV is now just a year old and still nothing works. Also now my TCL tv will not work on anything with a (blank) to HDMI adapter attached to it. For example a display port to HDMI adapter or a dvi to HDMI adapter, even if just the HDMI cord itself works. The adapter will work with any other tv or monitor so I think it's something about the way the signals are transmitted? Anyway, it's definitely the TV and if anyone else has this problem it might be worth it to try to get it sent in to be replaced or repaired. Because all the simple fixes definitely got me nowhere. Plus within the past two weeks the TV has now started to overheat after 15 minutes of use, and even some normal HDMI cords do not work anymore (it will not work with a HDMI connection to my desktop, but with the same HDMI cord it works with my laptop).

"Edit to add (6/1/2021): Switch still does not work on this TV as well as HDMI from my laptop or any adapters with HDMI (and yes the HDMI and the adapter work on other TVs) and now the TV has began overheating after 4 hours of use as well as it will not remain connected to the internet. Each time I turn on my TV I have to test my connection and restart it from the no connection error. This TV just unfortunately was poorly made, if you're having any issues close to when you bought the TV PLEASE return it, either for a replacement or a refund so that the issues don't just keep piling on

FAQs

There are a number of things that can go wrong. First, however, follow all of the steps outlined in this article. If your Switch still isn’t showing up on your TV, there may be a few reasons why.

  • On your TV, make sure you are on the right HDMI input. There is a chance that you are not using the right input, which would be why the Switch isn’t appearing on-screen.
  • Check your HDMI cable. If you are using a third-party HDMI cable, there is a chance that it may not be compatible with the dock, thereby nullifying the connection somewhere along the line. If you want to ensure a stable connection, use the official Nintendo HDMI cable included with your Nintendo Switch console. Will the Switch dock work with off-brand HDMI cables? Usually, but not all the time.
  • Check your HDMI connection. If the HDMI cable isn’t secured all the way into the port, the connection will be unstable.
