There are plenty of characteristics that make the Apple Card different than most other credit cards. One such quality is the fact that it comes with three separate credit card numbers.

You can use the Apple Card in three different ways: via Apple Pay, through the physical titanium card you can order after you've been approved for an Apple Card and accept the offer, and by providing a credit card number. Each of these payment methods has its own credit card number. By issuing three different numbers that work independently of one another, Apple is hoping to mitigate the potential harm that could occur should your phone or credit card information get lost or stolen.

Here's a look at those numbers and what they mean.

You Apple Card device number

Apple

When your Apple Card is created, Apple generates a device number that's specific to you and is stored on your iPhone's Secure Element — Apple's security-oriented chip for storing payment information.

If this sounds familiar, that's because Apple also uses the device number system for your other payment cards in Apple Pay as well. When you add a card to Apple Pay, a device number is created and stored on the iPhone's Secure Element chip. For privacy purposes, Apple only has access to a portion of your device number and a portion of your credit card number.

When you make a purchase through Apple Pay, your iPhone provides this device number and a one-time security code to complete the transaction — not your actual credit card number. This process works the same way when you pay with Apple Pay using your Apple Card.

The Apple Card also includes a separate number for instances in which you can't use Apple Pay or swipe a credit card and must provide a credit card number.

This number can be found by launching the Wallet app, tapping your Apple Card, and pressing the three dots in the top right corner of the screen. Then press the "Card Information" option located below the "Payments" section and authenticate using Face ID, Touch ID, or your passcode. You should see a card number below your name.

If you have a titanium physical Apple Card, that card will have its own number too —although there are no numbers printed on the actual card itself. The number is used to process a purchase when you swipe your physical card or insert its chip.

When you look at your recent transactions in the Wallet app, you'll see whether you used Apple Pay or your card number to make a payment. The last four digits of your card number for each transaction are also visible by tapping a transaction from the list and then pressing the arrow to reveal more information about it. You'll notice that those last four digits are different if you've used your physical card, virtual card number, or Apple Pay.

Aside from using your Apple Card with Apple Pay, you can also use the Apple Card number to buy stuff where Apple Pay is not yet accepted. In order to protect your privacy, the physical card has no number printed on it, which gives you a whole new level of security. But don’t worry, you can view your Apple Card number in the Wallet app and we will show you how.

How to get physical apple card number

Suppose Apple Pay isn’t supported on the platform where you want to purchase something, but manually entering a credit card number to pay works (like on the web or within apps). In these situations, you can use your Apple Card number to make online purchases anywhere Mastercard is accepted.

Here’s how to find your Apple Card number in the Wallet app.

View your Apple Card number in the Wallet app

To see your Apple Card number along with other details, follow these steps:

1) Open the Wallet app on your iPhone with iOS 12.4 or later.

2) Tap your Apple Card.

3) Select the 123 icon in the upper right corner, and authenticate with Face ID, Touch ID, or your passcode.

You can now see the following information about your Apple Card:

  • Your first and last name
  • Apple Card number
  • Apple Card expiration date
  • Apple Card security code
  • Card network

To use this Apple Card number in a payment form on the web or within an app, simply press and hold the field labeled Card Number, then tap Copy. Now switch to a website/app, then tap and hold the credit card number field and choose Paste to insert the number.

The various payment numbers

Aside from the Apple Card number in the Wallet app, you may also see other payment numbers, including the physical card number and the device account number.

The physical card number pertains to the number associated with your titanium Apple Card. The device account number is a device-specific number created by your card issuer or bank for each of the cards you add to Apple Pay, which lets the system process transactions without revealing your first and last name, card number, or other personal details to merchants.

For security purposes, you can only view the last four digits of your titanium Apple Card/device account number displayed on the Card Information screen (mentioned in the steps above). You will need the last four digits of your physical card number or the device account number when returning your previously purchased item to the merchant.

But what’s different about the physical card number from the Apple Card number in the Wallet app?

They both serve the same purpose, just like your other credit and debit card numbers, but because these things are easily copied, Apple has opted not to print any numbers on the physical card. Of course, every credit or debit card needs a number — Apple Card being no exception — but that doesn’t mean you have to choose between security and convenience.

According to TechCrunch, your Apple Card number is a semi-permanent virtual number that gives you an added layer of security. Should someone steal this number or you type it into an insecure web form, simply request a new number through the Wallet app, which beats having to cancel the physical card and getting a new one with a different number.

Tap your Apple Card in the Wallet app, then hit the three-dotted More menu. Now tap Card Information and authenticate with Face ID, Touch ID, or passcode. Lastly, tap Request New Card Number. And voila, just like that, you have a new number instantly, which is far better than having to wait for a new physical card just to continue making online purchases.

How do I find my full physical Apple Card number?

Open the Settings App. Scroll down and tap Wallet & Apple Pay. Tap Apple Card, then tap the Info tab. Tap Card Information, then authenticate with Face ID, Touch ID, or your passcode to see your virtual card number.

How do I get a physical copy of my Apple Card?

Open the Settings App. Scroll down and tap Wallet & Apple Pay. Tap Apple Card. Under Titanium Card, tap Request Replacement Card, then follow the instructions on your screen.

Is there an actual physical Apple Card?

With Apple Card you can make digital ‌Apple Pay‌ payments, but Apple is also providing a physical card. Since this is a credit card designed by Apple, it is, of course, unique among credit cards. It's made entirely from titanium, which is laser etched with your name.

Can I get my card number from Apple wallet?

Open the wallet app on your iPhone, tap on the card and then on the ℹ on the bottom right. Then tap on information and you will be able to see the last four digits of your device account number as well as the last four digits of the original card you added to Apple Pay.
