My car is 15 yrs old and the back window on the original top came away from the fabric. I was told that it happened because it is heated sealed into the top when they are manufactured. and that it dried out and couldn't fixed window without replacing the whole convertible top The prices I was getting to replace the top far exceeds the value of the car itself, 140K miles. I found someone to install it for me at a reasonable price and I am very happy, fits well and no leaks. In all it cost me less than a 1/3 of the quotes I was getting . If you can install it yourself, this is a no brainer. the down side is , this happened in the summer and I was told that I would receive the top in 2 weeks, it took more like 7, thanks to Covid! So I missed out on driving it with the top down, but I have next summer to look forward too!. Reviewed in the United States on September 12, 2021 I didn't know it was kind of different. Reviewed in the United States on August 22, 2021 Not having instructions with the top is a bit of a nuisance , but utube has a few videos that give you an idea of what to do. Reviewed in the United States on June 26, 2019 The black twill soft-top does look much better than on my 2008 Solara than did the 11yr old original soft-top - because it's new and hasn;t endured 11years of Texas weather ... but despite having it pofessionally installed, I've noticed that when driving in the rain, small drops of water will begin running along ths inside of the side windows - showing that the windows don't 'seal' correctly with the new roof, allowing the qwater to come in Reviewed in the United States on July 31, 2019 The top has been recently installed. The fit is remarkable. I was really scared thinking it might not fit well. It was installed within a few hours and it looks as well as the original. I was pleased with the price compared to others. It’s been on the car for one day and it has not rained. Reviewed in the United States on July 13, 2019 Update. I have been meaning to update this for over a year. This has ripped at critical points. The only way I can save my car from complete water intrusion is to buy a car cover. When I bought this, I replaced the seals and everything and it still leaks. I do not recommend this product. A new convertible rear window can cost you anywhere from $100 to $400 on parts alone, while labor can set you back another $50 to $150, depending on the rates in your area. The price of a replacement part varies depending on its brand, material, and finish.
Can you replace just the window in a convertible top?Anyone with a one piece convertible top cannot replace the window only. If your window bond is failing (separating from your material) or your window is cracked, scratched or otherwise damaged, there is not an effective way to replace the window only and salvage the rest of your top.
How do you get glue off a convertible top?Rub petroleum jelly into the glue and cover the area with damp paper towels. After about an hour, the glue should be soft enough to remove it. Scrape off as much softened glue as you can with a plastic scraper.
