Pokémon cards have been all the craze on Twitch over the past month with many of the site’s most popular streamers trying their hand at finding the rarest cards.

Over the past week, a group of streamers has been taking part in “Pokémon Week,” an event that has seen hundreds of thousands of dollars’ worth of card packs opened over seven days.

On the final day of the event, Mizkif opened the most expensive box of the whole week, a first-edition Neo Genesis worth $70,000.

After having mostly underwhelming pulls from the box, Mizkif struck gold, pulling the rarest card from the set, a holographic Lugia.

According to PSA authentication and grading services, at a PSA 10 quality the card’s value averages at $70,000, however, it was most recently sold for $129,000.

PSA have only ever graded 41 PSA 10 Lugias, according to the site. The card’s value does significantly decrease with quality, however, with a PSA 9 averaging at only $5,000.

Regardless, to pull a Lugia from one of these packs is extremely rare and the most sought-after card in the set.

Every Pokemon TCG fan dreams of having an extremely rare card worth more money than the cardboard it's printed on.While not everyone can be so lucky, some collectors may have a few valuable cards backed away in the back of their closet.

With how popular Lugia is as a Pokemon, it comes as no surprise that some cards featuring it have become quite valuable over the years. Some are certainly worth more than others, especially those that were particularly hard to get when they released.

10/10 Lugia GX ~ Lost Thunder - $149

Lugia GX

Lugia GX may be the most powerful card for the Pokemon ever released. The card showed up several times during the 2019 World Championships and in many decks that came after. While it came with several different kinds of art, the rarest of all with the rainbow coloring is the one that is particularly valuable.

9/10 Explosive Birth Lugia ~ 10th Movie Commemoration - $200+

Explosive Birth Lugia

The Rise of Darkrai was not only one of the highest grossing Pokemon movies but was also the 10th movie released in the series. Fans who went to see the movie in Japan had a chance to receive a special set of eleven cards — twelve for the first 4,200,000 patrons — with each card featuring a Pokemon from one of the films. This Lugia being so rare and exclusive to Japan has made it extremely valuable among collectors.

8/10 Lugia ~ Neo Genesis - $220

Lugia Neo Genesis

While the card is in no way strong competitively, it's absolutely gorgeous holographic art and retro look are part of why people adore it so much. It's also one of the few Lugia cards ever released back when Wizards of the Coast was in charge of the Pokemon TCG.

While its attack was clunky, it also holds the distinction of being the first card in the TCG to require three different kinds of energy to use an attack.

JR Rally Promo Lugia

This Lugia card being so obscure is likely why it isn't worth as much money despite how rare it is. It was one of six cards available through a promotion with the JR East Yamanote train line in 2002 called the Pokémon Happy Adventure Rally. As collectors could also only get the card by visiting the Shibuya Station, it makes for not many being out there. Especially since it had to survive a train ride home, finding one in perfect mint condition may be nearly impossible. It also has unique e-Reader data making it even more desirable by those with the obscure GameBoy Advance peripheral.

6/10 Lugia ~ World Championships 2010 - $300+

World Championships 2010 Lugia

As this card was only given out to players that made it through the World Championships qualifiers in 2010. While it was released in English in the HeartGold & SoulSilver Poster Pack and the HeartGold & SoulSilver Knock Out Collection in the US, the Japanese version is the one that collectors covet. Still, the other versions are able to get around $50 when sold which isn't too bad.

Lugia Call of Legends

With this card, it's important to make sure a collector has the right art for it to be as valuable. The rare holofoil card with art done by Ryo Ueda is not the valuable one — the shiny rare holofoil version with art from Hideaki Hakozaki is the card that brings home the bacon. It was extremely hard to get, though Japanese players had a special opportunity to get them as part of a raffle that took place between two months in 2010.

4/10 Lugia ex ~ Unseen Forces ~ $500

Lugia Unseen Forces

The Elemental Blast attack made its return for Lugia ex with a serious damage boost. It was still a bit too weird to use for most players, but the epic art made it particularly beloved by Pokemon fans.

The attack is meant to be a reference to the Pokemon movies and the lore they created for Lugia. It requires one energy from each type the other Legendary Birds use in the TCG to attack.

3/10 Lugia ~ Aquapolis - $800

Lugia Aquapolis

This Lugia card is not only incredibly gorgeous with its art, sparkly nature, and e-Reader capabilities, but its Poke-Body Crystal Type makes the entire theme of the card come together perfectly. Perfect mint versions of the card have managed to sell for thousands of dollars previously as well. It's one of those cards that any collector can show off with pride due to just how beautiful it is.

Lugia GameBoy Promo

The Pokemon TCG had an amazing RPG spin-off on the GameBoy back in the day. Western fans were never able to play its Japan exclusive sequel — Pokémon Card GB2: Here Comes Team GR! — or were able to get the promotional cards that came with it. This has made it one of the rarest Lugia cards to find with only its slight obscurity stopping it from demanding higher prices at auction.

1/10 Lugia ~ Pokemon Present Campaign - $1400+

Lugia Pokemon Present Campaign

During two months in 2010, Japanese customers that purchased a Pokemon LEGENDS booster pack could send in barcodes to be entered into a lottery. If players chose Course A over Course B in this lottery, they would receive this extremely rare Lugia card. With just how few of these were given out it's become incredibly difficult to find, especially in mint condition as they were mailed out to the players who won them.
