How much discount do florida residents get at disney world

If you are a Florida Resident then you can often get a discount on theme park ticket prices and Disney is no exception. As a Florida Resident you can also purchase special tickets and annual passes not available to anyone else. Disney Vacation Club members can also purchase one of the special Florida resident annual passes.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, you must make reservations for each day of both single day tickets and multi-day tickets

To buy a Walt Disney World Florida Residents ticket, you must be resident in the state of Florida and will need to show valid Florida ID which can any of:

  • Florida driver’s licence
  • Florida state-issued ID card (must have Florida address)
  • Florida voter’s registration card with corresponding picture ID
  • Florida college ID
  • Florida-based military ID

Alternatively you will need to show proof of a Florida residential address plus a corresponding photo ID (passport, driver’s license, state identification card).

In February 2016, Disney introduced tiered seasonal one day ticket pricing for their four theme parks. Those seasonal price bands only related to one day park tickets. Multi-day park ticket prices were not affected by seasonal pricing and blackout dates. That all changed in October 2018 when Disney switched to date-based pricing for all four theme parks.

Walt Disney World Florida Resident Single and Multi-Day Tickets

Florida Residents can often buy Disney single or multi-day tickets at special prices:

  • a single day Florida Resident ticket to either Disney’s Magic Kingdom, Disney’s Epcot, Hollywood Studios or Animal Kingdom
  • a 3 Day Florida Resident ticket
  • a 4 Day Florida Resident ticket
  • a single day ticket to either Disney’s Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon water parks
  • a single day seasonal ticket to either Disney’s Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon water parks

Walt Disney World Florida Resident Annual Passes

As well as single and multi-day tickets, Florida Residents can also buy annual passes, most of which are exclusive to Florida Residents.

New Walt Disney World Annual Pass Options

Disney stopped selling annual passes to Walt Disney World when the COVID-19 pandemic hit. They restarted again on September 8, 2021, but they have discontinued all the old annual pass tiers including the Florida Resident special annual passes and introduced four brand new Walt Disney World annual passes:

  • Disney Pixsy Dust Pass — available to Florida Residents only, equivalent to the old Disney Weekday Select Pass
  • Disney Pirate Pass — available to Florida Residents only, somewhere between the old Disney Theme Park Select Pass and Disney Silver Pass
  • Disney Sorcerer Pass — available to Florida Residents and Disney Vacation Club (DVC) members only, similar to the old Disney Gold Pass
  • Disney Incredi-Pass — available to everyone, equivalent to the old Disney Platinum Pass

All existing pass holders will have to switch to one of the new passes when their old annual pass expires.

Whereas anyone can buy a Disney Incredi-Pass with no blackout dates, the other passes are only available to Florida Residents (plus the Sorcerer Pass for DVC members). Whilst they are cheaper than the Disney Incredi-Pass, they do come with restrictions such as blackout dates especially during the busier periods.

One thing that used to be included in both of the old Platinum Passes was unlimited PhotoPass Downloads. This is also now a $99 add-on, but it is available with any of the new Disney passes.

This gives you digital access any digital photographs taken on the rides or by the official Disney PhotoPass photographers.

At this time there is no mention of whether Disney will re-introduce an equivalent to the old Premier Passport that used to give you one year’s access to both Walt Disney World and the two Disney parks in California.

Walt Disney World Annual Pass Differences

All the new Walt Disney World annual passes comes with:

  • complimentary standard parking
  • park hopping
  • up to 20% discount on selected merchandise and food
  • discounts on other Disney offerings
  • pass holder perks like fridge magnets and artwork prints, especially during the Epcot festivals

There are some significant differences between the pass tiers, particularly around blockout dates and number of reservations; basically the more money you pay the more days you can visit. The following table shows the percentage of the year that is blocked out and the number of advanced reservations you can hold.

Pass Name % Blocked out No. of Reservations
Disney Pixsy Dust Pass 44% 3
Disney Pirate Pass 20% 4
Disney Sorcerer Pass 5% 5
Disney Incredi-Pass None 5

Walt Disney World Annual Pass Blockout Dates

The cheapest Disney annual pass is the Disney Pixsy Dust Pass which gives guests access on most weekdays except for some peak periods. It is ideal for guests who do not mind not being able to visit at the weekends, ideal for retirees and families with pre-school aged children.

All weekends (Saturdays and Sundays) are blacked out along with the odd Monday or Friday, a week in March, two weeks around Easter, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Thanksgiving week and the last two weeks in December around Christmas/New Year.

This differs from the old Weekday Select Pass that blocked out Easter, June/July for the summer holidays and Christmas/New Year.

The Disney Pirate Pass does not limit you to just weekdays and has fewer black out days.

These tend to focus on the peak holidays like a week in March, two weeks around Easter, Thanksgiving week and the last two weeks in December around Christmas/New Year as well as long weekends around Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day and Columbus Day.

Whereas the Disney Incredi-Pass has no blackout days at all, the Disney Sorcerer Pass gives you access for most of the year with just a few days at Thanksgiving and the last two weeks in December around Christmas/New Year (18 days in total).

With the exception of the Disney Incredi-Pass, all the other passes block out part at least of Thanksgiving week unlike the old passes they replace which did not restrict this holiday period.

If you can forego the Thanksgiving and Christmas blockout dates, then the Sorcerer Pass make more sense financially as it is a third cheaper than the Incredi-Pass for the loss of just 18 days.

It is not clear at this time if/when Disney will re-introduce the water park annual passes and the special Epcot after 4 p.m. pass that is popular with residents wanted to go to one of the evening concert performances.

  • Disney Pixie Dust Pass
  • Disney Pirate Pass
  • Disney Sorcerer Pass
  • Disney Incredi-Pass
  • Disney PhotoPass Downloads
  • Water Park and Sports Option
  • an Epcot After 4 Pass giving unlimited access Epcot after 4 p.m. for a whole year
  • a Water Park Annual Pass giving unlimited access to both Disney’s Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon water park for a whole year
  • a Water Park After 2 Annual Pass giving unlimited access after 2 p.m. to both Disney’s Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon water park for a whole year

Disney Vacation Club members used to be able to get discounts on some annual passes but now they must pay full price on both the new Disney Sorcerer Pass and Disney Incredi-Pass.

Like most of the Florida theme parks, anyone aged 10 or over on the day of their first entry to the theme parks is classed as an adult and will have to buy an adult ticket.

Children between the ages of 3 and 9 are classed as children and may purchase a child ticket.

Children under the age of 3 are admitted for free.

Walt Disney World does not offer reduced annual pass prices for children, adult and child prices are the same.

If you are not a Florida Resident, then you can still buy single day admission tickets, multi-day tickets and one annual pass. If you are a UK or Ireland visitor, then there are also special UK visitor “length of stay” ticket options.

Walt Disney World Annual Pass Reservations

Since the parks re-opened following the pandemic, you need to made a reservation to enter one of the parks. This has to be the first park you are visiting on any given day, you can then park hop after 2 p.m. without the need to make another reservation (subject to any capacity limits).

Prior to the pandemic, all annual pass holders could visit a Disney park any day except for blackout dates subject to crowd levels.

Reservations are easily made with the Disney My Experience app using the Disney Park Pass reservation system.

You cannot simply make as many reservations as you want, you are limited by the type of annual pass you have. The cheapest Disney Pixsy Dust Pass limits you to three reservations at a time, the Pirate Pass to 4 and both the Disney Sorcerer Pass and Disney Incredi-Pass to 5.

This means if you have a Disney Pixsy Dust Pass for example, then once you have made reservations for three specific dates, you cannot make another reservation until you use up your first reservation.

Bear in mind that the number of reservations allocated to annual pass holders for a specific day has a finite value so you cannot simply assume you will be able to actually visit one of the parks on the day you want.

Do remember that your reservation is for a specific “first” park of the day so you may be able to visit a different park and then switch to the park you wanted after 2 p.m.

Disney has said they will allocate additional “bonus” reservation dates at certain times of the year which will not count towards your reservation limits. This is most likely to be when the parks are quieter.

Note however that pass holders staying at a Walt Disney World Resort can book reservations for each day of their stay and these do not count towards the five reservation limit.

Walt Disney World Florida Residents Annual Pass Ticket Prices for 2021

Whilst the water park add-on used to only be available as part of the most expensive old Disney Platinum Plus Pass, it can now be added to any pass.

Note that all Disney annual passes exclude special ticketed events like Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party but you can sometimes get discounted tickets

In June 2010, Walt Disney World announced a payment plan for Florida residents so you do not have to pay for your annual pass in one lump sum. As an option you can now make a single down payment of $205 and then twelve monthly payments with no interest or finance charges.

With the changes announced in 2015, all annual passes included complimentary standard parking and a MagicBand. You could also get up to 20% discount off some dining and merchandise.

Note that the complimentary MagicBand has since been withdrawn so if you want a MagicBand, you now have to pay for it.

Walt Disney World Annual Pass Recent Price Rises

Disney typically increase ticket prices once or twice a year and annual passes are no different.

In June 2019, ahead of the opening of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, Disney increased all annual pass prices (except the Disney Theme Park Select Pass) from between 8 and 20%.

In February 2020 they increased them again, just before all the theme parks closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This time, prices rises were between 5% for the cheapest passes like the EPCOT After 4 Pass up to 10% for the most expensive, the Disney Platinum Plus Pass. Again, the Disney Theme Park Select Pass was exempt.

How much of a discount do you get for Disney if you live in Florida?

Enjoy an action packed visit to Walt Disney World Resort! Florida Residents can save 40% on 4-Day Tickets and 30% on 3-Day Tickets compared to the non-Florida Resident price of a 3-Day or 4-Day Ticket. Want to visit for a day? One-day, one-park tickets start at $109, depending on the date and the theme park.

Why does Disney offer discounts to Florida residents?

Since they're closer to the parks, they're the most likely to make repeat visits, so the discounts encourage as many of these visits as possible. The more time they spend on Disney property, the more likely they'll spend money on Disney merchandise, food, and drink.

Who gets a discount at Disney World?

1-Day Passes Are Almost Never Discounted 1-day Walt Disney World tickets rarely have discounts, so it's usually best to just buy those directly through Disney. The exception is that some associations offer discount 1-day passes for teachers, students, military, and other groups.
