Job Summary:

TheArmedDetention Officeris responsible to control access to detention facilities; to ensure the safety and security ofcritical assets, detainees, staff, and visitors and perform duties with honesty, integrity and in a professional manner.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs duties related to the safeguarding and security of everything within the limits of their assigned post; and only leave when they have been properly relieved. Exercises surveillance over all exterior ingress and egress points.

  • Authorizes, restricts, or denies entrance or exit of persons, vehicles, and or property into the facility interior or hard interior.

  • Provides screening of persons, packages, and vehicles through use of magnetometers, X-ray machines, walkthrough metal detectors, physical searches of bags and packages, handheld metal detectors, vehicle security mirrors, physical searches of vehicles (trunks, glove compartments, undercarriage, wheel wells).

  • Provides delivery access control, verifies authorization for delivery, screens the driver and all passengers, and physically reviews the cargo hold.

  • Provides escort when necessary of visitors, vendors, and/or contract personnel.

  • Performs patrols of assigned areas in vehicles or on foot. Identifies any out of normal conditions and immediately reports them. Listens for sounds or noises out of the ordinary, checks all doors, locks, and other security equipment is activated and working properly.

  • Responds to emergencies.

  • Directs traffic, control parking, observe area for suspicious vehicles or persons on or around the property.

  • Secures entrances during demonstrations and civil disturbances to prevent unauthorized access to the facility.

  • Shall not express or display personal opinions on the nature of the demonstration and remain professionally neutral.

  • Coordinate and fully cooperate with local law enforcement or Federal Protective Services personnel.

  • Makes official entries in the post logbooks that are legible and complete.

  • Conducts security and sanitation check of the area prior to relieving the outgoing officer.

  • Perform complete patrol vehicle inspections prior to and following every shift.

  • Inventories all equipment and notates the results in the logbook.

  • Receives all authorized equipment and ensure that it is in proper working condition.

  • You are required to duty carry one of the authorized intermediate weapons.

  • Intermediate weapons should be used in accordance with Service approved Use of Force policy.

  • Ensure that your communication radio is in good working order with a fully charged battery.

  • Inspect, maintain, and care for authorized equipment including but not limited to:

  • One approved semi-automatic pistol with appropriate duty belt and magazines.

  • All magazines loaded to full capacity.

  • Handcuffs/leg irons and keys, waist chains, black boxes, and restraint keys.

  • Ballistic vests which must be worn at all times while performing armed officer duties.

  • Enforces rules and regulations of the detention facility.

  • Performs all work duties and activities in accordance withorganization policies and procedures.

  • Follows company-wide safety policies and practices and adheres to responsibilities concerning safety prevention, reporting and monitoring as outlined in the Officer Handbook and other Company Safety Policies.

  • May be assigned to work as an Unarmed Detention Officer or Armed Transportation Officer; and will follow all position requirements when serving in those roles.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Speak, read, write, and understand English.

  • Concisely and accurately prepare and write narratives ofincidents and other written reports.

  • Pass and maintain required medical and physical testing requirements and standards.

  • Exercises judgment and uses discretion in dealing with first response to any and all situations.

  • Demonstrate proficiency in methods and techniques of securing and controlling facility access, following required training, policy and procedure.

  • Maintain physical fitness standards and proficiency with firearms issued and other special equipment.

  • Maintain a professional personal appearance, calm demeanor, and discretion with confidential information.

  • Possess a high degree of integrity, accountability and adhere to the American Correctional Association and National Detention Standards.

  • Ability to work with a diverse population of people,including people of different cultures, with different values and lifestyles; with a cross cultural perspective.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be a US citizen.

  • Possess a high school diploma or equivalent (GED).

  • Pass a criminal background and consumer credit check (no criminal record).

  • Obtain and maintain a DHS/ICE government clearance.

  • Pass all pre-employment and random drug tests.

  • Pass a medical examination and meet health requirements.

  • At least 21years of age.

  • Possess a valid state driver's license.

  • Possess a valid firearm license from the state.

  • Must have a state security guard licensefrom the state.

  • One year of Military, Security, Law Enforcement,or Corrections experience demonstrating the following:

  • Ability to greet anddeal tactfully and professionally with the general public.

  • Capability offollowing and interpreting/understanding written and verbal orders,policies and regulations, printed rules and regulations,detailed written orders, training instructions and materials, and are able tocompose written and oral reports.

  • Ability to exercisegood judgment:courage, alertness, an even temperament, andrender satisfactory performance through his/her responsibilities.

  • Abilityto maintain poise and self-control during potential emergencies andunexpected situations that may involve mental andphysical stress suchas disturbances, altercations, fires, and building evacuations.

  • Maintaincurrent/physical residency in the continental United States.

  • Strictly maintainphysical fitness standards for law enforcement and CDL requirements.
