You have to check a lot of things when you always receive the “couldn't communicate” in Google Home or Google Home Mini. After that, follow the solutions below to try to fix the problem.

  1. Set up Google Home speaker or display again.
  2. Restart your device.
  3. Check the device system.
  4. Turn on Bluetooth.
  5. Turn on airplane mode.
  6. Forget the WiFi network.
  7. Troubleshoot Google Home app.

Things to check first:

  • Please make sure you have used the provided power adapter and cable to connect Google Home.
  • Please make sure your device is placed within the WiFi range to avoid poor internet connection.
  • Please go to check the linked Google account and make sure it's the same one you used to log into Google Home.

Set up Google Home Speaker or Display Again

If you lost the Wi-Fi connection suddenly or changed the Wi-Fi name/password/service provider, you should set up the Google Home speaker or display again in order to make it work.

  1. Open Google Home app on your device.
  2. Click Add in the upper left corner.
  3. Select Set up device.
  4. Choose Set up new devices in your home.
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the setup process.

Restart Your Device

Restarting device is an easy but effective solution to try in lots of problems. Please unplug your device -> wait for at least 20 seconds -> plug in the device and boot it up.

Check the Device System

The device on which you try to set up Google Home must satisfy the following software requirements:

  • Android phone: Android 5.0 Lollipop or higher.
  • Android tablets: Android 6.0 Marshmallow or higher.
  • iOS device: iOS 11 or higher.

Turn on Bluetooth

  1. Restart your device.
  2. Open Settings.
  3. Look for the Bluetooth option and turn it on.
  4. Open Google Home.
  5. Try to set up again.

Turn on Airplane Mode

The airplane mode will stop all connections on your device. You should go to Settings -> turn off WiFi -> turn on Airplane Mode -> turn off Airplane Mode -> turn on WiFi -> open Google Home and connect Google Home to WiFi again.

Forget the WiFi Network

  1. Open Google Home on your device.
  2. Click the Google Speaker.
  3. Look for the Settings icon and click on it.
  4. Choose Forget WiFi.
  5. Set up the WiFi and connect Google Home to WiFi again.

Besides, you should go to check the number of the devices that have been connected to the same WiFi. If it reaches the maximum number limit, you should disconnect one or more devices from the WiFi, and then try to connect the Google Home device.

Troubleshoot Google Home App

Two common ways to solve the problems appeared are updating Google Home app and uninstall & reinstalling Google Home app. If both failed, you may also try to fix the problem by resetting Google Home.
