Meet Serenity, the sap "Serenity" (This review references pictures that could not be loaded https://goo.gl/maps/oWpFw8wc5HsSupbV7 here is the link). Meet Serenity, the sapphire blue, 2021 Kia Sorento AWD. I am Sunshine, the lady in the blue dress, and that sweet lady next to me is Carla Le. This is the story about how I came to purchase Serenity. Hannah was my 2014 BMW 335i xDrive with the M Sport package. Hannah was a beautiful girl with just under 27,000 miles on her when I started driving her. As a few years went by, my back just couldn’t take getting in and out of such a low car any more, so in about September or October of 2020 I started looking around for vehicles that had options and features that were most important for me and the dogs (I call them my kids). My criteria was as follows: • Good suspension that offers a smooth ride and would not beat up my back • Heated front seats • Leather seats • All wheel drive • Exterior color had to be blue or black • Interior color had to be black • 2nd or 3rd row folding seats (Must not be a minivan) • Back Up camera • Sunroof • Under 10,000 miles • Good factory warranty • DCT Transmission That isn’t too much to ask right? LOL! I used Carvana, Autotrader, friends, family, strangers, local dealerships and any other resource I could think of. I discovered quickly that a sedan, coup, hatchback, and minivan were not for me. I started exploring the world of SUV’s. I looked at everything from Honda CR-V, Toyota Highlander, Toyota 4Runner, Chevrolet Equinox, Ford Escape, Nissan Rogue, Genesis GV8, BMW x3, Audi SQ7, Mazda CX-9, Jeep Grand Cherokee, and so many more. I researched the reliability of their motors, transmission and entire drivetrain. Through months of research and studying, I decided I was going to purchase a Kia or Hyundai for the 10 year/100,000 mile warranty. I was originally going to purchase a used model, then found out I could not get the warranty I wanted unless I was the original owner, so I made the bold decision to purchase my first brand new vehicle. After looking at the body styles between the Hyundai and Kia, I fell in love with the blue color options the Kia models offer. So, at this point, I have decided the Year and the Make, but next, I had to choose the model. I then started looking deeper into the 2021 Kia Seltos SX Turbo in Neptune Blue with black interior and fell head over heels in love with everything I saw online and the price point was amazing. Time for a test drive! My heart was broken. The Kia Seltos SX Turbo did not have the suspension and drive I was hoping to find. When laid down, the backseats did not lay flush with the cargo area. Back to the drawing board… The Telluride was more than I wanted to pay and didn’t come in blue. The Sorento was just a hair over my budget and there were a few things I liked about certain trim levels, and things I didn’t like about the other trim levels. I am still disappointed that I couldn’t get the 2nd row bench seat instead of the captain chairs in the SX trim level. Then again, I am probably the only person I know that considered her dogs while shopping for a vehicle. I want the “kids” to have plenty of room in the back and for it to lay flat. Considering I was already at the dealership, I figured I would take a Sorento for a test drive. The ride was soooo smooth. I drove over railroad tracks and my back didn’t hurt. Running over potholes didn’t hurt either. The safety features were amazing. Way more than I was looking for. The suspension had me sold. I tried to custom build my Kia Sorento and order it exactly the way I wanted it, but, alas! I would have purchased the SX Prestige, but the only way to get it in the Sapphire Blue was to get Front wheel drive. All wheel drive was so important, that I sacrificed a few other features I would have gotten with the Prestige trim level. My perfect Sorento build would have been to make the following adjustments to the SX Prestige options, Sapphire Blue on the AWD option, replace the 2nd Row Captain’s Chairs with an all leather bench seat that laid flush with the 3rd row and cargo area when folded down. I made my decision. I was going to buy the 2021 Kia Sorento SX AWD with Sapphire Blue exterior and Black interior. Now it is time to find a dealership. I put my specification in every website I could find, but autotrader.com is where I found the one I would ultimately end up with. My goal was to find the vehicle I wanted at or below MSRP. Buying a vehicle over MSRP is like throwing money away. The local dealerships I called, Kia of Tyler and Kia of Longview wanted more than MSRP as defined by Kia.com. When I asked why they wouldn’t reduce it to MSRP, they called it a market adjustment and said other people are buying them for that price. I was confident that I could find what I wanted for the right price and further became determined. I searched the entire US through autotrader.com. I found a few that would require a road trip that would take longer than two days. One day, I came across the posting for the exact one at a price just under MSRP posted by Classic Kia of Beaumont in Texas. They hadn’t even had time to load a picture of it before I called them and started working a deal. No haggling was involved because it was already priced at less than I was willing to pay. On February 12, 2021, Eric Brown, the General Sales Manager with Classic Kia of Beaumont sent me a written quote for what I asked for. Document fees were only $150.00 (back office people need to get paid too). Eric Brown even quoted me a price for my trade that was just under what I wanted and just over what I would have taken for my 2014 BMW 335i xDrive M Sport. He offered to deliver my new vehicle and pick up my trade which is a 5 hour drive one way from Beaumont, Texas to Mineola, Texas. I was blown away by his offer of free delivery. Due to the snow storm, our original plan to complete our transaction could not be completed on the original date we set. On February 20, 2021, I needed to say my final goodbye to Hannah, so I picked up a passenger to take with me and rode the 5 hours South to Beaumont, Texas. When we got there, Eric shook my hand, took my trade for a test drive and put me in the hands of Sweet Carla. Carla already had most of the paperwork ready to go. She walked me through everything and I signed. While we were waiting for the finance manager to finish, Carla gave me the keys and introduced me to Miguel Carter who took the time to get me acquainted with all of the technology in my new vehicle. We spent a while going over everything. When the previous customers left, I got the privilege to meet Andrew Pridemore, the Finance Manager. Because I had just about everything in place before I even got there, Andrew explained what he was going to do and how he was going to do it and was able to go over everything very quickly and efficiently. You would think that would be the end of this little story, but it isn’t. Carla, Miguel, Andrew and a few others have reached out to me to make sure that I was still happy with my purchase, see if I needed any training videos or had any questions or concerns. My plates just came in recently to Kia of Beaumont. The lady called and asked if I would like her to mail them. I wish I could remember her name. My response was, “Yes, please. It is a 5 hour drive from Beaumont to Mineola.” She replied, “I know, I will be driving through there to visit family tomorrow.” I asked if she wanted to save the shipping cost and just drop them by my office that is just a few blocks from the main road she would be on. I was all beside myself when she said, “no problem, I should be in the area around 2:00pm”. Considering I was working in another location that Friday, I asked her to leave my plates with my secretary. I got to the office the next day and my plates were waiting for me. This is what customer service looks like. I was asked by other dealerships why they didn’t get my business and am happy to explain to them what I did and didn’t like. Classic Southeast Texas made my experience so amazing that I hope the same people are around in 10 years when my warranty goes out and I purchase another new car. I don’t think any other dealership could compare. What do the “kids” think? They Love it! More
