Q: Why cant I get Libby on my Kindle Fire?

Did you know that you can check out and download eBooks and eAudio through the library? This video tutorial will show how easy it is to check out an eBook on the Libby app from OverDrive, and send it to your Kindle, or the free Kindle app on your smartphone or tablet.

To follow along with this video tutorial, you will need three things:

You need to have the Libby app downloaded onto your smartphone or tablet, and be signed in.
You will need to have either a Kindle reading device or the free Kindle app installed on your smartphone or tablet.
You will need to have an Amazon account.

First, go to the Libby app on your smartphone or tablet.

Select the purple bar called Preferences. Under Compatibility, select “Kindle” to search all of the Kindle-available titles.
Now search for your book!
If your book is available, it will say Borrow. If not, you can place a hold and receive an email when the title is ready. Most books check out to one person at a time.

Tip: To find an eBook you can download right away, tap on Preferences and then Availability. Change to Available Now.

Once you have found your eBook, it’s time to check it out.

Click on Borrow under the book you want. You will see your card information. Click the “Borrow” button.

Click the Read with Kindle link.

The app will open Amazon.com. Log in to your account.

Make sure that the Deliver To information is set to your preferred device.

Click Get Library Book and the title will be sent to you. Sync your Kindle or Kindle app to see your new title.

You may get warnings saying that the Silk browser needs more access on your device or that this kind of file should be avoided. We test our file to make sure it’s safe, so you can safely dismiss these messages for our Libby APK.

Tap OK, Allow, or Continue to proceed. (The wording of the warnings may vary.)

Yes, you can download Libby on your Amazon Fire tablet directly from OverDrive, the developers of Libby.

Note: We have no further information on when or if Libby will become available in the Amazon Appstore. Despite repeated requests, Amazon has not provided OverDrive information on the timetable for approval.

Libby for Fire tablets, while not available from the Amazon Appstore, has the same features as the Android and iOS versions of the app. The main difference is that you'll need to update the app (when updates are available) by visiting the same webpage you used to download the app, instead of the app store.

A note about reading: When you borrow a book on your Fire tablet, you'll have the option to read it in Libby itself, or, if you belong to a U.S. library, to send it to the Kindle reading app on your Fire tablet. Follow our "Reading with Kindle" instructions for more help.

You can read most books with Kindle (available in the U.S. only). To send a book to Kindle and read it there:

You'll be taken to Amazon's website. If prompted, sign into your Amazon account.
Verify the "Deliver to:" device and tap Get Library Book to finish getting the book.
