The variety of annual events nourishes the Birmingham vibe. Here are some of the festivals and events on the schedule for 2021. As some festivals have cancelled or postponed during these times, please check the individual festival website to check the status:

Beyond Van Gogh– November 17, 2021-  January 3, 2022. Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex. Immerse yourself in Van Gogh’s artwork like you’ve never seen it before.

Voices So True Exhibition– October 9, 2021- January 30, 2022. Birmingham Museum of Art. Artists offer a visual voice that gives shape and form to history, ideas, experiences, and feelings. Voices So True: New Native American Art from the Clyde Oyster Bequest features the work of seven contemporary Native American artists, whose vision gives voice to Native American perspectives, past and present.

Dear Evan Hansen– January 19- 23. Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex Concert Hall. Dear Evan Hansen is the deeply personal and profoundly contemporary musical about life and the way we live it.

Birmingham Boat Show– January 20-23. Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex. The show is now the Oldest and largest in the State of Alabama. With over 250,000 square feet, the show highlights the latest in boats, motors, fishing gear, guides, outfitters and related outdoor gear.

Birmingham Squadron Basketball– November 5, 2021- April 2, 2022. Legacy Arena. Great NBA G League action.

O’Reilly World of Wheels Custom Auto Show–  February 4-6. Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex. The O’Reilly Auto Parts World of Wheels are indoor shows featuring Hot Rods, Race Cars, Antique Cars, Classic Cars, Custom Imports, and Motorcycles presented in creative displays.

Lost Realm of the Moundbuilders Exhibition– October 9, 2021-February 6, 2022. Birmingham Museum of Art. This exhibition explores the fascinating archaeology and history of the Mississippian Moundbuilders, their religious and ceremonial activities, farming and hunting practices, trade networks, and their highly-developed social, political and religious centers.

Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre– February 8. Alys Stephens Center. These dancers dazzle with their trademark technical brilliance and passionate energy and bring audiences to their feet at every performance.

Birmingham Squadron Basketball– November 5, 2021- April 2, 2022. Legacy Arena. Great NBA G League action.

Mercedes Marathon– February 11-13. Linn Park- Downtown Birmingham. We are excited to welcome runners back to Birmingham for our 20th anniversary celebration. Early registration is encouraged as our participant limits might change in response to ongoing COVID-19 developments.

CATS– February 17-20. Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex Concert Hall. CATS, the record-breaking musical spectacular by Andrew Lloyd Webber that has captivated audiences in over 30 countries and 15 languages, is now on tour across North America!

Southern Voices 2022-February 23-26. Hoover Public Library.  Southern Voices is a three-day conference exploring the characteristics of southern culture as reflected in our contemporary arts. Sponsored by Hoover Public Library and open to the public, the conference brings together a chorus of artistic voices- writers, editors, musicians, performers, and public figures  to create a full and open dialogue on the relevance of our regional past to Southern art and culture today.

18th Annual MortgageBanc Chili Cook-Off– March 5. Brookwood Village. Join us on Saturday, March 5th, for live music, all you can eat chili, beverages, and a KidZone at the 18th Annual MortgageBanc Chili Cook-Off Benefiting The Exceptional Foundation!

Fiddler on the Roof–  March 31-April 3. Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex Concert Hall. Fiddler On The Roof is appearing live in Birmingham at BJCC Concert Hall.

An Officer and a Gentleman– April 28- May 1. Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex Concert Hall. An Officer and a Gentleman is appearing live in Birmingham at BJCC Concert Hall.

Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama– April 29- May 1. Barber Motorsports Park. The only Indy Series event in the Deep South, this motorsports event draws tens of thousands of race fans every year.

Bob Sykes BBQ and Blues Festival– April 30. Debardeleben Park, Bessemer. The event will combine the best of blues music and legendary Bob Sykes BBQ from 12-8pm. Gates open at 11am. Be sure to bring your chair or blanket and set-up your spot for the day to enjoy talented blues musicians.

Gumbo Gala– April 30. Cahaba Brewing Co. This spicy event has grown into one of the city’s most popular cooking competitions. Proceeds benefit Episcopal Place, which provides affordable, independent living for seniors and disabled adults.

Gardendale Magnolia Festival– April  22-23. Gardendale Civic Center- A kid friendly event with face painting, inflatables, a rock wall and sensory-friendly stations. Enjoy a midway carnival, vendor booths, three stages of live entertainment, a pooch parade, a 5K run/fun run and much more.

Magic City Art Connection– April 22-24. Sloss Furnaces. Birmingham’s largest art festival spotlights 200 juried, fine artists from around the country in all mediums alongside Corks & Chefs: A Taste of Birmingham, Imagination Festival workshops for kids, two performance stages, a cafe’ and more.

Talladega GEICO 500– April 24. Talladega Superspeedway. With Talladega Superspeedway’s tripleheader weekend set for April 22-24, NASCAR‘s Most Competitive venue announced that select ticket options, including premium upgrade and NEW, modified fan experiences, are available. Fans are encouraged to act now as tickets are limited and pricing will increase on race week. Limited tickets available.

Homestead Hollow Arts & Crafts Festival– May 13-15. Springville. See wood carving, blacksmithing, wood stove cooking, quilting, whiskey making at our original working still, tour our original cabins as they were built by the early settlers. Enjoy great food, music and children’s activities.

Do Dah Day Festival– May 14. Cahaba Brewing Co. Benefitting animal rescue services, this is one of the city’s most wonderful and wacky events. Homemade floats and animals dressed in costume will remain stationary while the spectators “parade” past them.

Barber Historics– May 21-22. Barber Motorsports Park. This event is a Formula Car Festival, meaning you will see many different generations of the Formula cars represented, from Formula Vee’s to Formula Junior to Indy Lights to Formula 1600 and Formula 2000’s and F4’s.

SEC Baseball Championship– May 24-29. Hoover Met. The SEC Baseball Tournament features premier college baseball as the top twelve teams compete for the championship. Don’t miss your chance to see six days of the best college baseball at the Hoover Met Stadium.

Barber Small Bore–  June 3-5. Barber Motorsports Park. The world’s largest small bore event is back at the 880 acre Barber Motorsports Park! Great routes, road racing, drag racing, stunt lot, parade laps, Moto-soccer, Creek Bottom Classic off-road racing, hill climbing, bike shows, swap meet, industry wide displays and support, games, demos, prizes, food, and the world’s largest motorcycle museum.

Lakeview Hullabaloo– June 4. Lakeview. Lakeview Hullabaloo presented by Slice Pizza and Moe’s Original BBQ is set to take stage Saturday, June 4, 2022 and rock the block from 2 p.m. to midnight on 29th Street South in the Lakeview District. Attendees will boogie the day away, while enjoying pizza, ‘que and brews while experiencing the jammin’ tunes of summer with headliner Gov’t Mule, along with other supporting artists.

Juneteenth Celebration– June 18. Kelly Ingram Park. The Birmingham Civil Rights Institute is pleased to invite you to take part in our 2022 Juneteenth (Freedom Day) Celebration on Saturday, June 18th. We’ll host a series of exciting features for our community and members of  The Institute in this day-long jubilee from 10am until 6pm.

Euphonious Music and Tech Festival– June 17-19. Birmingham Zoo. Don’t miss Birmingham’s music and technology festival happening June 17-19 at the Birmingham Zoo. Last year’s event was a huge success and drew attendees from across the country.

Riverdance 25th Anniversary Show– June 22-23. Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex Concert Hall. Riverdance is a musical composed mainly of traditional Irish songs and dances. The theatrical show emerged as an interval performance act in the 1994 Eurovision Song Contest. At the time, it featured Irish dancing champion Michael Flatley and Jean Buttler and their vocal ensemble Anuna.

Kinky Boots– June 3-26. Red Mountain Theatre. Kinky Boots features a Tony Award-winning score by pop icon Cyndi Lauper, and a book by Tony winner Harvey Fierstein.

Caribbean Festival– June 11. DeBardeleben Park, Bessemer. A fun filled, family friendly celebration of Caribbean culture with food, music, dancing and a parade.

Gregory Porter– June 17. Alys Stephens Center. Gregory Porter rose to acclaim in the 2010s with his earthy, cross-pollinated brand of jazz, soul, and gospel.

Thunder on the Mountain– July 4. Vulcan Park and Museum. The state’s largest 4th of July celebration will again ignite the sky atop red mountain with an array of fireworks in honor of  the cities’ sesquicentennial.

The World Games 2022– July 7-17. Various location in and around Birmingham. The World Games is an extraordinary, international sports event held every four years, in the year following each Summer Olympic Games. Staged over 11 days, The Games represents the pinnacle of competition for 3,600 of the world’s best athletes in 30+ unique, multi-disciplinary sports.

Homestead Hollow Arts & Crafts Festival– September 23-25. Springville.  See wood carving, blacksmithing, wood stove cooking, quilting, whiskey making at our original working still, tour our original cabins as they were built by the early settlers. Enjoy great food, music and children’s activities.

Fiesta– September 24. Linn Park. Alabama’s largest celebration of Hispanic culture is a colorful event in downtown Linn Park. Learn about the many Hispanic countries and their cultures through art, music food and dance. From tortas to tacos and jerk chicken to pupusas, this fest puts on the spread. Here, you’ll find Salvadorian, Caribbean, and Brazilian food, from warm plantains, tapiocas, and quesadillas, to tamales, and corn cups. You can almost smell the homemade tortillas cooking. Come hungry!

Taste of 4th Avenue Jazz Festival– August 27. Historic 4th Avenue Business District, downtown Birmingham. Enjoy live music, spoken word and vendors at this year’s Taste of 4th Avenue Jazz Festival! Free and open to the public, this event runs from 12 noon-10pm.

The Alabama Butterbean Festival– September 30- October 1. Pinson. This down-home gathering tempts you with butterbeans prepared in all sorts of ways, and then offers you one heck of a good time. In fact, if butterbeans aren’t your jam, you might want to come anyway for 12-hours of live music, carnival rides, food, petting zoos, pony rides, and who knows what else!

Annual Whistle Stop Festival– October 1. The Outlet Shops at Grand River, Leeds. Nothing makes us think “Alabama” better than fried green tomatoes. And if what you love about fried green tomatoes includes Fannie Flagg’s novel, Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe, well, then you might want to check out this local favorite held annually in the charming little downtown of Irondale just east of Birmingham.

Bluff Park Art Show– October 1. Bluff Park Community Center. Some of the finest artists in the country show at this annual event in the Bluff Park neighborhood of Birmingham.

Greek Food Festival– October 13-15. Holy Trinity-Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Cathedral. The Greek Festival, Birmingham’s oldest and most anticipated cultural events will be held in a drive-thru, walk-up/take-out, to-go format with an abundance of delicious authentic Greek cuisine.

17th Annual Barber Vintage Festival– October 7-9. Barber Motorsports Park. It’s a motorcycle enthusiast’s dream! Enjoy three days of non-stop action and fun at Birmingham’s premier motorsports park!

Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead)– November 2. Pepper Place. In the Mexican tradition, the festival commemorates the deaths of loved ones through music and dance.

Christmas Village Festival– November 2-6. Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex Exhibition Halls. Mothers and daughters, sisters, and friends begin their holiday shopping by meeting in Birmingham the first weekend in November to enjoy an amazing variety of gift ideas- all under one roof.

Moss Rock Festival– November 5-6. Moss Rock Preserve. This eco-creative festival in the Birmingham suburb of Hoover explores Nature, SmartLIVING, Art + Design and features 100 juried artists & makers, a smart living market & sweetery, hikes and outdoor activities, the Beer Garden craft tasting event, music, food, kids studios, and other special design features like tiny homes.

National Veterans Day Parade– November 11. Downtown Birmingham. Birmingham has the oldest and one of the largest Veterans Day celebrations in the country.

Alabama Theatre Christmas Movies– December 2022. Alabama Theatre. Enjoy a Christmas Classic every night in December at the historic Alabama Theatre.
