The Rev. A. Katherine Grieb, Ph.D.

Conference Preacher

The Rev. Dr. A. Katherine Grieb has taught New Testament at Virginia Theological Seminary since 1994. She is currently the Meade Professor in Biblical Interpretation. Previously, she taught for two years at Bangor Theological Seminary in Maine.

She received her B.A. in Philosophy and Religion from Hollins University, her J.D. from Columbus School of Law (Catholic University of America), her M.Div from VTS, her Ph.D. (with distinction) in Religious Studies (Theology) from Yale University, and her L.L.M. (with distinction) in Canon Law from Cardiff University School of Law. Ordained to the diaconate and priesthood in the Diocese of Washington in 1983, she serves part-time at St. Stephen & the Incarnation Episcopal Church in Washington, DC.

Dr. Marques Garrett

Conference Clinician

A Virginia native, Marques L. A. Garrett (he/him/his) is an Assistant Professor of Music in Choral Activities at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in the Glenn Korff School of Music. His responsibilities include conducting the auditioned Chamber Singers and non-auditioned University Chorale (soprano-alto) as well as teaching graduate choral literature. Before earning his PhD in Music Education (Choral Conducting) at Florida State University, he was the Director of Choral Activities at Cheyney University of Pennsylvania. Additionally, he holds an MM from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and a BA from Hampton University.

Equally at home as a solo recitalist, collaborator and arranger on both the piano and the organ, Daniel Stipe’s broad array of abilities lends a rare depth of understanding and excitement to his music-making. His large and varied concert repertory, with special focus on works of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, continues to delight audiences wherever he performs.

Choral Concert: The Thirteen

Described as singing “… with striking color and richness …” (Anne Midgette, Washington Post), The Thirteen is an all-star professional choir known for inspired and powerful live performance. Since its founding in 2012, the choir has been at the forefront of bringing invigorating performances to the American choral community in repertoire ranging from the Renaissance to the Romantic, from Bach to Bruckner; and from Gregorian chant to the world premieres of new American composers.
