The Lights

  • Engine Malfunction Light: This light resembles the classic check engine light and looks like an engine block. Normally, you’ll see this light illuminate briefly upon engine startup. If it remains on, however, it indicates that there’s a major malfunction with your engine or an issue with your sensors.
  • Airbag Warning Light: This light appears as an airbag deploying in front of a seated person. It indicates that there’s a fault with your airbag and may be unsafe.
  • ABS Warning Light: If you see the letters ABS in a circle, there’s a problem with your anti-lock braking system.
  • Oil Warning Light: This one looks like an oil can and indicates that your oil is low.
  • Engine Coolant Temperature: Appearing as a partially submerged thermometer, this light indicates that your engine temperature is too high. If you see this light, pull over as soon as you can and let your engine cool down.
  • Tire Pressure Warning Light: This light looks like a deflated tire with an exclamation point in the middle and indicates your tire pressure is low.
  • Transmission Temperature Warning Light: This light looks like a thermometer inside a gear and indicates that your transmission temperature is too high.
  • Hill Descent Warning Light: This light looks like the outline of your Compass descending a hill with a speedometer above it. It indicates that your 4WD lock switch is activated in off-road mode.
  • Fuel Door Cap Reminder Warning Light: This symbol appears as a refueling station with an arrow next to it and it points to the side your fuel cap is on when you’re low on gas.

  • ESC Warning Light: Appearing as a car with curved treadmarks behind it, this light indicates that there is a malfunction with your ESC system, and you should get your Compass serviced immediately.
  • 4WD Warning Light: This light appears as the characters 4WD with an exclamation mark, and indicates a fault with your 4WD system. If it’s blinking repeatedly, the system is completely disabled due to an overload.
  • Brake Warning Light: Appearing as the word BRAKE, this light could just mean your parking brake is engaged. If you disengage it and the light remains on, you could have low brake fluid. If that’s not the case, you could have a serious issue with your brake hydraulic system.
  • Battery Warning Light: This light looks like a car battery and indicates that your battery isn’t being charged or needs to be changed entirely.
