2023 honda xr 650 for sale

Honda keeps on keeping on with one of off-road’s most iconic motorcycles, the XR650L – Enduro21 takes a quick look at the 2022 model complete with its curved front fender.

Yes, Honda still makes the iconic XR650L. Didn’t you realize? Not just a familiar part of Honda’s line-up for more than 30 years, the XR650 is the dual-sport, off-road benchmark adn it still has a curved front fender.

Honda has updated the XR650L rarely in three decades and the 2022 model year version follows the same pattern – if it ain’t broke don’t fix it right? – basically it has new colours.

But who cares frankly because this is one of the original trail bikes, a versatile dual-sport tool, a round the world adventure machine, cool city commuter and so much more. These bulletproof beauties have a very good record at the Dakar Rally and Baja races and rightly have a diehard following.

Good and bad news

The good news is the XR650L remains something of a bargain in the sky-rocketing new bike market with an MSRP of $6,999. The bad news is it is not available in every territory or country around the world – these details come to Enduro21 via Honda USA. If you know anyone in Honda Europe, give ‘em a kick would you?

12 models from five different categories including sport, miniMOTO, dual sport, scooter and trials unveiled by Honda US overnight but not much new for off-road in Oz.

The biggest changes went to the CBR1000RR-R Fireblade SP but we want to focus on the off-road models, so here we go.

Three dual-sport machines we’re already familiar with have been  announced – the CRF300L; its adventure-focused sibling, the CRF300L Rally; and the classic XR650L, the latter in a new colour and only available in the US (sucks for us Aussies). In addition to these adventure models, a pair of upgraded Montesa Cota trials machines will also be a part of the 2022/23 model lineup.

So if you were hoping for an all-new model in the off-road, non-competitive category from Honda you’re out of luck. But in case you missed it last year, here’s a snapshot of those off-road models. We are waiting on information of Honda’s CRF motocross and enduro range, like the Honda CRF250F, and will update you when hat comes through.

“The motorcycle industry’s top-selling dual-sport model, the CRF300L boasts strong power, low weight and excellent on- and off-road performance, while also delivering unparalleled value, reliability and styling” Honda said.

“The model has a broad powerband, predictable handling and aesthetic cues that are carried over from Honda’s CRF Performance line, and it’s available in standard and ABS versions, both of which are ready to provide low-cost transportation and true dual-sport adventure”.

“Based on the standard CRF300L, but with comfort-focused upgrades including hand guards, more fuel capacity and a frame-mounted wind screen, the CRF300L Rally evokes images of the Dakar Rally while delivering practicality and value” Honda said of their more off-road friendly, small-capacity adventure machine.

“More suitable for long-distance adventuring than its standard sibling, the Rally version is also a stellar commuter”.

Frustratingly, this model is not available to us Aussies. We’ve been begging for it but it seems the Yanks snap them all up before they make their way to Australia.

“Yes, the XR650L has been a familiar part of Honda’s lineup for many years, but there’s a reason the tried-and-true dual-sport model continues to be popular with customers” Honda US said.

“It’s highly adaptable, opening the door to adventure on single-track trails, dirt roads and backroads, while also delivering capable transportation in the city. The natural result of those characteristics – plus a proud Baja heritage – is a diehard following of riders, who will be pleased to know that the model has received a styling facelift for 2022”.
