I initially tried to google the correct wrench and ended up here. I searched the 11 Gen DIY thread and didn't see anything. Show Is there a definitive good oil filter wrench for these cars? Is the Matco TOY640 correct? Something else better? Joined

Whatever fits the 10th gen fits the 11th gen. I know wrench fits, but not sure on the quality; reviews are pretty good though. Joined Feb 28, 2011 · 8,083 Posts Joined Sep 30, 2006 · 14,898 Posts
I use the Matco ones at work, theres two sizes and the Corolla takes the smaller of the two. The Matco ones are not made by Matco, I'm not sure who makes them. They grab on the hex AND the tabs and feel very secure on the housings.

Yeah, Matco's TOY640, TOY110A, and TOY112A are 64.5mm 14 flutes... They all work, but TOY11OA is more specific to your Corolla. EWK's EB0014 I got covers both of TOY110A and TOY112A applications. Joined Mar 29, 2015 · 40 Posts Joined Feb 28, 2011 · 8,083 Posts
The ABN 71110 is fine too... You just need to avoid the weak tin or plastic ones, or cheap 65mm tools made in China, instead of the required 64.5mm. Joined Oct 3, 2014 · 408 Posts
Matco TOY640 is correct yes, for Corolla 2009-2015 with 2ZR-FE 1.8, and many other Toyota and Lexus applications... Here's a really good one by EWK which I ordered for friend's 2014. Scroll down for photos and specs:

That dvautoparts site says not to use a torque wrench to remove the filter. Is there a reason for that? I'm not seeing the problem here. It is generally recommended to not use a torque wrench to loosen anything... The oil filter cup can be quite hard to unscrew the first time. The high rate of torque applied,
and the shock sustained when breaking the bond can throw your delicate torque wrench's calibration off. Joined Jan 2, 2015 · 541 Posts
I picked one up from auto zone and it has been working no problems for me

The 25412. They just happened to have it in stock so i grabbed one without thinking to much of it, so with that being said the other may work as well but im not sure. only thing to complain about the 25412 is the side where they wrench goes on is tapered so it takes some finagling sometimes to get it to where you feel like its
not slipping. little grinding down or filing would take care of that though. Joined Mar 29, 2015 · 40 Posts
Discussion Starter · #15 · Mar 30, 2015 (Edited) I found a #71110 at Tooltopia for $15 so I ordered it. Hopefully the factory torqued mine to spec, so it will come off easy at the 5K mile oil change. Do any of you have a cheap source for OEM oil filters? Or is the dealer
reasonable? Joined Jan 2, 2015 · 541 Posts

Dealers have a surprisingly good price on Toyota 0W-20 synthetic oil. Oil filters probably are reasonably priced as well. Good selection from Rock Auto:
