2009 honda civic si idler pulley

Hi everyone. I've noticed about 5 months ago, that there was a strange clicking/ticking noise. I've found out what it is (idle pulley/idler pulley), however, I have not replaced it yet. The car drives fine, just makes that strange noise in the engine bay. I'm waiting for warmer weather to work on the car, however, I'm wondering if this is an urgent fix that I should do? Will waiting more damage the engine in any way?

My friend told me this problem is like an "irregular heart beat", and must be fixed ASAP. Just would like your thoughts on this! Thank you!

What problems can a idler pulley cause?

The pulley spins against the belt wearing down both parts. This wear reduces tension which can lead to belt slippage. Even more noticeable is a cracked or damaged pulley or bearing. This damage interferes with the rotation of the belt causing torn belts, or the belt falling off of the engine.

Can a car run without idler pulley?

Like any other automotive part, the components of this piece gradually wear down as time progresses. It is possible for idler pulleys to slip after bearing devices endure wear and tear or become damaged. If the idler pulley does not function as designed, the vehicle will not run.

Is a tensioner pulley the same as an idler pulley?

An idler pulley is a bearing with a pulley that changes the direction of motion of a belt. It is generally fixed in position. A tensioner is an idler pully that is mounted on a moveable mount so that it maintains tension on a belt.
