I replaced these when my old synchronizer wore down enough to start tapping. The new synchronizer appears to be working great. The sensor on the other hand cooperated for a few weeks before the hard starts and engine codes came with a vengeance. Thankfully I'd kept the old sensor which I swapped back in and the issues vanished immediately. Knocking on every wood surface I find that the synchronizer doesn't echo the build quality of the sensor.
