2003 ford expedition camshaft position sensor location

my Ex has developed this intermittent stall while driving. It will happen about once a day while just driving along. After a minute or 3, it cranks right up and drives like there is no problem.

A code reader indicated P0320 - crank sensor condition, so I picked up a new crankshaft position sensor.

Now, where does the damn thing go. I am comfortable with all amnner of repairs, so I'm not an embicile, but if I can save myself a few minutes of hunting around for the sensor, I'd sure like that.

Can anyone help me?

I found out where it is and changed out the sensor last night. It is located on the lower passenger side of the engine block, just next to the A/C compressor. Unfortunately, the A/C compressor has to be move out of the way to remove and replace the sensor. Here are the steps to replace it.

1. Jack up the right front of the truck and use a jackstand to secure it so you can fit under the truck. (or use ramps)

2. use a large ratchet wrench to apply leverage the belt tensioner to loosen the serpentine belt

3. remove belt from the upper pulley so there is enough slack at the bottom to remove it from the A/C Compressor

4. crawl under the truck and remove the 3 bolts (13mm) and the electrical connections to the A/C compressor and the crank sensor. You have to be a contortionist to get to the bolts and actually get the loosened and removed. (one bolt can only be reached with quarter turns of an open ended wrench – and they are all long-winded bolts)

5. once the compressor is loose, slip the belt off the pulley and finagle the compressor backwards, over, and down in the small space between the frame rail, engine block, and rack & pinion so you can access the sensor to be replaced.

6. Reach down from the top side (by feel) to remove the small bolt (8mm) holding the sensor in place (because you just can’t bend your arm with a wrench in your hand enough to reach from the bottom).

7. remove and replace sensor

8. reverse the steps to put everything back together.

thank you for this post. i just had to replace the sensor on a 2003 4.6, and these instructions were dead on accurate, right down to the bolt sizes. got it done in under 45mins. thank you again.:driver:
