Chief Residents

Samuel Olukayode Ayo, M.D.

Hometown: Roosevelt, NY

College: Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education

Medical School: Albany Medical College

Dr. Ayo, who prefers to go by K, is from Roosevelt, NY, a small town on Long Island. He attended the Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education's combined BS/MD program and graduated from Albany Medical College. He completed his Internal Medicine residency at the University of Rochester in 2022. He was initially attracted to U of R not only for its reputation as a top academic institution, but also because of the diverse and relevant history within the City of Rochester and Monroe County. As an undergraduate, he completed the 2-year Colin Powell Public Policy Fellowship, and he consistently aims to incorporate the concepts of policy and community engagement learned during that time to inform his care for individual patients.  He is happy to have found a community of colleagues with similar values and feels personally connected to and motivated by the patient population that he serves here in Rochester.  His long-term interests include Academic Hospital Medicine and equity within and outside of health care the Chelsea Football Club, The English Premiere League and more Chelsea Football Club. He is an adoptive fan of the Buffalo Bills (bandwagon fan).

Sara Gianfagna, D.O.

Hometown: Buffalo, NY

College: Georgetown University

Medical School: Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Med

Sara is a native of Buffalo, NY.  She went to Georgetown University in Washington, DC for college (go Hoyas basketball!). While there, she studied abroad in Galway, Ireland.  She graduated from Lake Erie College of Medicine (LECOM) in Erie, PA. There, she received a dual degree: a Doctorate of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O), and a Master's Degree in Medical Education (MSMEd.). Before medicine, she wanted to be a teacher, and as a child could always be found teaching her family and friends in the basement on her chalk board. She felt medicine was the natural fit to combine her love of science, care for others, and teaching, whether it be her patients, families, or other medical students and residents. When choosing residency, she loved that collegiality of U of R, the emphasis on being well rounded, and that many people who trained in Rochester choose to stay. She felt the program was structured in a way to emphasize education, and the patient population was diverse enough to allow for a well rounded experience. Sara is interested in medical education for both medical students and residents, focusing on clinical reasoning and bedside examination. She plans on pursing outpatient Primary Care after completion of her chief residency year. When not in the hospital, you can find Sara outside. She enjoys skiing, bike riding, kayaking, and playing tennis. On the rainy days, she is often reading or playing the piano. Her favorite bike ride in Rochester is on the Erie Canal Trail to get ice cream from Pittsford Dairy!

Jenny Schreiber, M.D.

Home Town
New York City

College: Duke University

Medical School: SUNY Upstate Medical University

Jenny is a native of New York City. She completed her undergraduate education at Duke University, where she received a B.S. in Psychology. After graduating, she moved back to NYC for two years, where she worked as a Research Study Assistant in Clinical Trials studying Immunotherapies and their effects on solid tumors at Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital. She then moved to Syracuse NY, where she attended medical school at SUNY Upstate earning her MD degree.

She couples matched in to the University of Rochester Internal Medicine Residency with her wife, Jordana Gilman, who is completing her OBGYN Residency at the same program. Jenny was drawn to the program because of the incredible people, the focus on resident education and wellness, the excellent leadership, and the city itself! Jenny has a special interest in Medical Education, bedside Point of Care Ultrasound, and Clinical Reasoning. She plans to pursue a career as an Academic Hospitalist after completing Chief year.

Outside of the hospital, Jenny enjoys spending time with her wife Jordana and two cats, Grace & Frankie. She loves cooking Japanese food, watching Duke Basketball, exploring the Finger Lakes region, and being outdoors in all seasons. She also captains the IM Residency Volleyball team (Go MOHO!).
