So all in all, Toyota fixed the front two door lock actuators under warranty. They also covered 50% of the 3rd. My complaint thus far is that this is kind of a ridiculous part to have a failure, that hopefully I'm not back at the dealership repairing the remaining actuator. That the new ones they are replacing with are not going to fail in another 34-38k. I can think of much better things to do than repeatedly return to the dealership for silly garbage like this. Whatever.

ANOTHER door actuator has stopped working. This is just over 2 years of owning the vehicle. Of course it is only covered within 30,000 miles - so there is no warranty covering it. This is a major security issue. Sometimes the door will unlock (when being placed in Park), but then not lock when pushing the button. The problem is that there is no warning that it's not working - I have to check all the doors when walking away. This is ridiculous and leaves the vehicle completely open to things being stolen. Please acknowledge the issue and fix it, Toyota!

Just over a year, the driver side front and rear door locks stopped working. I took it to the dealer and they said "oh yes, this is a common issue." So, I had it replaced under warranty fortunately. A week later, the rear door lock stopped working - SAME issue!! In less than 2 years of owning this 4Runner, I have had 2 door locks already go out! How is that possible!? I owned my previous 4Runner (2002) for 8 years and never had a lock actuator problem. Clearly the 2014 4Runner has a part issue if multiple people have this issue - as the dealer said "oh, it's a common problem on that model." They should issue a recall and replace every single lock.

Finally, when the actuator stops working, it does not lock/unlock with the button on the door or with the key in the door! This is a major security issue, especially since the doors are designed to unlock when placed in PARK (and sometimes the lock will magically work and unlock when this happens). Which makes is super easier for someone to break in and steal things.

I have replaced (under warranty) every door lock actuator twice except the drivers door. As of today my drivers door actuator is not working so I will be dropping it off at the dealer Thursday morning. This is my first Toyota and I purchased it because of their reliability and quality. In about 2k miles my vehicle will be out of factory warranty and all future repairs will be up to me. I have contacted Toyota about my concerns and my local dealership.

I purchased my Toyota 4Runner brand new and did so because of the quality that Toyota is known for. I also looked at Ford Explorer and Jeep Grand Cherokee but went with the Toyota because I felt that the quality would be far superior in this car. At around 25,000 miles my front passenger side door lock actuator stopped worked. The door had to be manually locked. This was repaired under the warranty. Now, about a week ago, the front driver side door lock actuator stopped working. There are only 30,000 miles on the car and it is less than 2 years old. This in not the quality I purchased my car for and not the quality I thought Toyota is known for. I have heard of people replacing multiple actuators. I love the car but this is a pain in my butt. There really should be a recall as you can tell this is a recurring issue but apparently nothing yet. Awful! Let's just hope the rest of the car is made better than the door lock actuators.

Today the third, yes THIRD, door lock actuator went bad! This is when you press the lock or unlock button on the key and the door lock doesn't respond. I originally had the rear passenger door lock go out and replaced under warranty 4 months ago. Last month the same exact problem occurred with the front drivers door, also covered under warranty. Today, front passenger door?!?! So yes, covered now under extended warranty, but really? (3) door lock actuators? Has anybody else dealt with this? I'm also worried that the replacement part is only the same part and will also fail. No kidding aside, it's a pain in the ass when you hit the lock or unlock and one of five doors does not work.
