How to show battery percentage on iphone 12 without swiping down

Sometimes getting an estimate of your iPhone's battery life just isn't enough. If you have a recent model like the iPhone 11 or iPhone 12, you've probably noticed that Apple no longer displays the exact battery percentage alongside the battery icon in the top right corner of the screen. Luckily, there's an easy way to see the battery percentage on newer iPhones with a single gesture. Just swipe down from the top right corner of your iPhone's screen. Seriously, that's it.

Older iPhones that still have the home button, such as the iPhone SE and iPhone 8, can display battery percentage in this area, which is known as the status bar. But if you have an iPhone X or later, you'll have to complete a couple of quick and easy steps to see exactly how much juice your iPhone has left.

How to see iPhone 11 or 12 battery percentage with one swipe

Put your finger on the status bar, which is the area where the cellular, Wi-Fi and battery icons are displayed. Then swipe your finger downward.

Drag down from the top right corner of the home screen to see the battery percentage on your iPhone 11 or iPhone 12.

This gesture launches the Control Center, which is where iPhone models with Apple's more modern bezel-free design show battery percentage information. This works on the lock screen, the home screen and even while you're using an app.

How to display iPhone 11 or 12 battery life on home screen with a widget

If you'd rather have your iPhone's battery life displayed on screen by default without having to swipe, there's a different way to make that happen on newer iPhones. While you won't be able to see it in the top right corner, you can pin a battery widget to your home screen that shows the percentage.

First, press and hold anywhere on your iPhone's home screen to go into edit mode and tap the plus (+) icon in the top left corner.

Tap the plus symbol to add widgets to your iPhone's home screen.

How Do I Turn on the Battery Percentage on My iPhone 12?

Being able to see the exact battery percentage on your iPhone is useful. For me, it means that I know the best time to plug in my phone, and how intensely I can use it.

However, the new iPhone designs have left little space to show your current battery percentage on the status bar. The battery icon is still there, but that doesn't help if you want to know exactly how much juice you have left on your iPhone 12.

Unfortunately, the option to include battery percentage in the status bar is gone, but there are other ways that you can see it.

1. Using Control Center

Pull down the Control Center on your iPhone 12 to view battery percentage. This is a quick method that you can use with any app, and while it isn't convenient as having it permanently on the screen, I find it quite effective.

  1. Swipe downwards from the top-right corner of your iPhone 12 screen.
  2. This will open Control Center. The battery icon is at the top-right corner. Right beside it is the percentage.
  3. Just swipe up to close the window and get back to whatever you were doing.

This method to check battery percentage on iPhone 12 is rather quick. Do it enough times and it'll become second nature to you.

2. Using Battery Widget

iOS 14 finally brought widgets to iPhone, which was great news. This opened an array of possibilities when it came to how you can customize your device.

Fortunately, widgets provide an additional way to see how much battery you have left on your iPhone 12.

To use a battery widget to see battery percentage on your iPhone 12, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Home Screen.
  2. Hold down on a free space on the Home Screen.
  3. Press the plus at the top-left.
  4. Tap the "Batteries" widget.
  5. Swipe left and right to look through the different styles for the Batteries widget.
  6. Select "Add Widget" at the bottom once you've picked the style you like best. This will add it to your Home Screen.
  7. You can now move it around on your Home Screen and pick the spot you want it to be at.
  8. Select "Done" at the top-right corner to save it in that position.

The good thing about this battery indicator widget is that it show you the current battery life of any Apple device connected to your iPhone 12, such as an Apple Watch or AirPods.

With this method, you'll have to go to the Home Screen to see the battery percentage, but if you don't mind that, it's a great option.

3. Using Siri

This is one of the most fun ways to check your battery percentage, and it certainly comes in handy when you can't reach for your iPhone.

To ask Siri to show battery percentage:

  1. Go to "Settings".
  2. Select "Siri & Search".
  3. Enable "Listen for 'Hey Siri'" and/or "Press Side Button for Siri".
  4. Hold down the side button on your iPhone 12 or say "Hey Siri" to summon Siri.
  5. Say "How much battery life do I have left?"
  6. Siri will respond by reading out your battery status and displaying the percentage on your screen.
