So, you need to repay a friend for your part of the groceries or take-out. Or you want to settle up for your share of a gift or other expense. Or, you just need to send money to the babysitter or help a family member. In the past, you might’ve paid your friends, family, and other trusted people with cash if you had it. Now you can make those payments quickly and securely with Zelle®.
What is Zelle®?
Zelle® is a fast, safe and easy way to send money to, and receive money from, people you know and trust who have a bank account in the U.S. -- typically in minutes when both sender and receiver are already enrolled with Zelle® at their financial institution or in the Zelle® app.
How do I use Zelle®?
To access Zelle®, Wells Fargo customers can go to Wells Fargo Online® or use the Wells Fargo Mobile® app. Wells Fargo customers can enroll with Zelle® using their eligible checking or savings account, if they are enrolled with Wells Fargo Online. Learn more to get started with Zelle®.
After enrolling with Zelle® using your email address or U.S. mobile phone number, here’s how a typical send transaction works:
- Set up and send. Add or select your trusted recipient, enter the amount you want to send, and choose an account to fund your payment. Carefully review and validate the details of your payment before you send it. As most payments are sent in minutes between enrolled users, sending money with Zelle® is much like exchanging cash with someone.
- Recipient is notified. Your recipient will be notified by email or text message with the details of your payment and instructions on how to enroll to receive the money if they are not yet enrolled with Zelle® at their financial institution or in the Zelle® app.
- Recipient enrolled. If your recipient’s email address or U.S. mobile phone number is not enrolled with Zelle®, they’ll need to enroll to receive money. They will have fourteen (14) days to complete their one-time enrollment using the same email address or U.S. mobile phone number you used to send the payment.
- Money is sent. Once your recipient has enrolled and linked their eligible account to their email or U.S. mobile phone number, the money is sent directly to the recipient's account, and is available typically in minutes.
Even if you don’t plan to send money with Zelle®, you may want to enroll with Zelle® using an eligible account and your U.S. mobile phone number or email address. Then if someone wants to send you money with Zelle®, the money can be quickly sent to your account.
