we need to solve the following by completing the square. We're going to pull the two out of the first two terms. Move the 16 over. We're going to take the six divided by two and square it so that's plus nine but that nine is getting multiplied to the two, so we're really adding 18. So this is two times are plus three squared is equal to two. We divide both sides by two, so we get our plus three squared is equal to one. We take the square root of both sides and we get our plus three is equal to plus minus one. We move the three over, we get negative three plus minus one. So our solutions are r is equal to negative three plus one, so it's negative two. We all have our is equal to negative three minus one. R is equal to negative four. So our two solutions are negative for a negative two.

How do you solving quadratic equations by completing the square?

Steps to Solving Equations by Completing the Square.
Rewrite the equation in the form x2 + bx = c..
Add to both sides the term needed to complete the square..
Factor the perfect square trinomial..
Solve the resulting equation by using the square root property..

What is the completing the square technique?

Completing the Square is a method used to solve a quadratic equation by changing the form of the equation so that the left side is a perfect square trinomial . To solve ax2+bx+c=0 by completing the square: 1. Transform the equation so that the constant term, c , is alone on the right side.
