I have a quick question on the CVT service. I have the dip stick, filter and fluid. I was curious if anyone has used a large drain pan and a big measuring cup to do the service. I know its temp sensitive so if I leave the compass in the garage for a couple days with the fluid could I not drain it all out. reinstall the filter and pan. then measure the fluid and reinstall roughly the same amount?

I just dont know what level I have to fill to on the dip stick. thats the reason for draining and measuring idea . I mean it should work as long as the trans temp is the same as the new fluid temp going in.

Other then that Im prepairing to do a TON of front end work on this SUV as im sure lots of you guys are. Thankfully the subframe is still in half decent shape.

Ok great I got the manual and all that but most of the videos I've seen and also the Haynes repair manual says once you drain the oil and pan filter you should be putting roughly 4 quarts back in then doing the measuring while scanning temps.

If Only 4L comes out the Rest must be trapped in the transmission? . I don't want to drain 4L and put 7 in and damage anything.

That is exactly what I did. Pulled the pan, caught 100% of the fluid, poured all of it into a measuring pitcher (caught about 4800mL), replaced filter and replaced old pan with one with a drain plug and then replaced the 4800ml.

2011 Jeep Compass

My 2011 Jeep Compass has a slight whining noise when driving high speeds and my temperature gage at times runs high ... the line before red . Just bought the car and now not sure what I should do. The vehicle has 150000 miles on it. No smells, no leaks not even making any abnormal noises. Only heard the whining once while driving 60 mph. Only reason to believe it could possibly be a CVT transmission problem is because it seems to be a issue with the Jeep Patriots. Not sure what I should do. Bust seeing I just purchased the car, I also don’t wanna be nervous to drive it.

What seems to make the problem better or worse? After driving an after the engine has heated up is when the temperature gage runs high

How long have you had this problem? I just purchased the vehicle 2 days ago

Even if CVT issues are prevalent with this vehicle, it doesn't mean it's a problem with your Jeep. A whining noise may not be cause for concern -- especially with 150,000 miles! Did you have your vehicle checked by a professional before purchasing it?

If the temperature gauge is running high, I would have a look at that concern before anything else. When does the temperature gauge run high? Sitting still stopped at a traffic light or stop / parked, or cruising down the highway?
